So the 2034 World Cup is going to be held in Saudi Arabia. Recall that for the 2022 edition in Qatar, there was much angst in certain quarters about it being played in November and December because the traditional summer slot is simply too hot in that part of the world. I imagine those people's heads will explode when they learn that there's a strong chance the "2034" World Cup will actually be staged in 2035, probably in January and February. The reason: In 2034, Ramadan falls in December. It's just a bit of a big deal in Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, they need to get the World Cup over promptly, prior to mid-February, because that's when the Hajj will take place.
You'd think someone at FIFA would have thought of such things before rigging the process for Saudi Arabia (e.g., maybe they could have said, "Look, 2038 would make more sense to avoid those two issues.). But, as a guy I worked with in the early 1990s would have said, "That'd be too much like right."
