I think we forget just how optimistic some of us were at the start of 2024. That team was .500 when it won it's 14th game. Wood was crushing it in the minors, and I think Crews was not exposed and doing well enough. One of our more active threads through May was whether the Nats should try for the wild card with some promotions from the minors and some dealing to patch a few holes. We were coming of a major, surprising improvement in 2023 and it looked like 2024 was on a better pace. The Nats were above .500 as late as May 10, and were only 1 under as late as June 23 (game 77).
