I think Mead played 1st some last year. Looks like a versatile piece who will get time that went to Chappy.
had 200+ innings at 1st last year in mlb

not sure i understand this. Chaparro had a good spring and seemed like a better hitter. Even already batted #2 once.
Chappy has his fans here. He has options, so I imagine if Chappy crushes it in the minors and Mead flails, he'll get recalled.

The Phillies getting Sanchez for him is an all time great trade.

Good pickup. This is the type of talent the Nats should have rolled the dice on consistently the past half decade. Take enough shots on players like Mead and you'll find contributors.

mead’s swing has been described as being as sweet as honey.

 :rimshot:

I actually get this.  Even though I've yet to try the Meadery in Front Royal, but someday.

Meh… most taste like a watered down Zima. I doubt the stuff they drank in Beowulf was anything like what’s available now.

Not including today's game, has as many plate appearances against each. Has an OPS of over .800 against RHP.

He was considered a top prospect at some point.

I like Nunez's D, but I can see trying to expand when he's used. I think they also like bringing him in off the bench.

I mean, you could DH him too.

I didn’t realize until today that he was the guy the Phillies traded to the Rays for Cristopher Sanchez. Oh my.

This is the report on Mead from milb.com in 2024 when he was the #3 prospect in Tampa's system. I assume Butera has some familiarity with him.

I read somewhere Butera was key in getting him here.  He’s responded exceptionally well to the new regime’s coaching.

So he likes Vegemite and the Tellytubbies. It's insightful analysis like that which makes nats.com a must-read...   ;)

In today's Post today, per Danielle Allentuck
Quote
...Mead was playing for the Adelaide Giants of the Australian Baseball League, and Butera, a manager for the Rays’ low Class A affiliate, was coaching the Perth Heat.

Mead was signed out of Australia by the Phillies, then was traded to the Rays,
Quote
Butera took the three-hour flight across the country to meet the Rays’ newest acquisition. As Mead progressed through the levels, rising to be the Rays’ No. 2 prospect in 2023, so did Butera right alongside him. In 2021, Butera managed Mead at low Class A Charleston, and in 2024, he oversaw his progress as the senior director of player development.

So yes, well known by Butera.  And was a high prospect just a couple of years ago, so some pedigree.

Remarkable Baseball Savant page.  Like Keibert, he's pulling the ball a lot, something the previous administration discouraged.  It really was the coaches fault.

Should we post this on the Rays/White Sox forums, for whom he played in 2024 & 2025?

Has House lost 3B? OPS about .785 in Rochester. That would be OK at 3B in the majors, although not like Rendon-Zimmerman. And his fielding?

And not even arb eligible until 2028.  Making what, $781k?

Yep. This team's future is King at SS, Mead at 2B, Morales or Ortiz at 1B, House at 3B, and 8 prospects in the top 100 by next year's deadline

Mead’s gonna be around a while. Even as we cal guys up, he’ll be able to bounce around 3b, 2b, 1b, dh. With injuries, he’ll find his way in a lot
