Probably useful to track the minor league pitchers who are on the roster and eligible for call up as well as the date guys become eligible for call up if they've been sent down.

Perales - eligible (5 IP on 7/4)
Nicolas - eligible (0.2 IP on 7/4)
Schultz - sent down 6/24, eligible, 7/9
Varland - sent down 6/26, eligible 7/11
Kent - sent down 7/5, eligible 7/20
Yean - sent down 7/6, eligible 7/21
Henry - sent down down 7/7, eligible 7/22

Why send down Yean and Henry? Sure, I like two-inning relievers, but neither pitched badly in one-inning slots.

They had  Krook coming, so what they tried was to cover a short stretch when they needed multi-inning help until Krook got on board.

LHP Tom Cosgrove (acquired from Houston on July 3) recalled to take Lord's spot. I think this will be the 16th pitcher we've used this year (+/- 1)

Made one appearance for Rochester (1IP, BB, 3K)

I'm guessing he's up as a burnable long guy who will go down if they have to use him.

Wasn't on the 40 man, so this requires  another move. Call me surprised.

I suppose Irvin has been IL'd since 5/24. IF Wednesday's throwing session / sim game did not go well, he's a candidate for the 60 day IL.

EDIt  - sounds like Butera wants  him to make 3 rehab appearances once he's cleared to begin. That should take him out to 7/23 or so, so 60 day IL is an option. Figure Sunday / Friday / Wednesday is 7/22 for rehab.

Pretty wild they made these 1 or two game moves just for a series. Even wilder the Nats didn't win one of the games. Really desperate.

But that's what analytics is supposed to do. Its supposed to help you on the margins. Problem is, you can't use dogcrap pieces and expect premium results.

RHIII traded for cash or a player to be named later. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/07/nationals-trade-robert-hassell-iii-pirates.html

He desperately needed a fresh start. Good luck to him.

Was really hoping Skenes would have been included in the deal. :)
