The #Nats have called-up RHP Zak Kent from Triple-A Rochester after optioning Andre Granillo last night.

Kent, 28, joins the Nationals after he was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on May 3. He pitched to a 3.38 ERA (4 ER/10.2 IP) with 12 strikeouts for Triple-A St. Paul this season. He converted his only save opportunity with the Saints, working 1.1 innings to close out a win over Lehigh Valley on April 17.

Local kid who grew up on the eastern side of Northern Neck, Virginia and went to VMI. Originally drafted by The Rangers in 2019 in the ninth round.

Had a feeling this would be coming after both Parker and Lord went long in the Reds series. I had thought Kent was out of options and needed to clear waivers to be sent down but with an option this makes more sense.

Alvarez may open for Littell. All the lefty relievers got a day off today.

Chaparro has been mashing as of late in Rochester.  1.213 OPS in the last week, .861 in the last month.

Sounds like Mead is going to get some time at 3rd.

As for the OF and DH, it's likely 3 guys (Crews, Lile, and Wood) nearly full-time, and maybe Young platooning with Vivas or Tena (whoever isn't platooning with Mead)?

My guess is that Crews, Wood, Lile, and Slugging Young rotate though the OF and DH.

I think it's 15 days, but yea, pretty much. Figure if they get in a pinch, Alvarez is the next one to get sent down. Though Henry worked 1.1 innings last night so, Schultz might get sent down for that.

This one surprised me a bit because I thought that Schultz would be out as well. Lovelady is clearly the high lev lefty reliever for now, but I thought they liked to spot in Poulin for stretches in the middle of the game. Maybe Parker starts to work in shorter spots but it's clear Alvarez is being kept on the same starter-like schedule as Littell for now. Zuck mentioned Alvarez's schedule in his post about why Butera went to Schultz 3 days in a row ending Monday (see the "Fire Butera" thread reply # 211).

Probably want to see how Henry recovers. Swapping him for Schultz makes some sense, although Schultz seems to be the 1+ inning middle guy now. With Beeter / Ribalta /Henry, maybe they don't need that role.

Maybe Poulin is down to be able to start the  15 days quicker. If they are avoiding him to rest and recover, then avoid using him in Rochester, not in DC.
