Guys promise me that if any of you ever become an NFL GM, you won't pick an RB on Day 1 of the draft.

Jeremiyah Love will probably lead the league in rushing next year but taking him at #3 will cost the Cardinals dearly, both literally in terms of spending too much money at the RB position and in terms of missing the opportunity to lock in a player at a more premium position on a rookie contract.

Interesting you and Half Smokes in the Commies thread mention the idea of drafting a guy at an expensive position and getting him under a rookie contract. Kiper (sorry to cite him but I don’t follow the draft closely) is one of those who normally says drafting a rb in the first should be fireable, but he was adamant that Love was a top 3 talent and defended the pick. Pretty light draft at QB. My impression was the left tackle depth was good but maybe top of the draft was a stretch. Trading into the teens seemed like a good move.

As for the Pats, they moved to 28 from 31 to grab a tackle who could probably play either side with a bit more muscle. May end up pushing Campbell to the RT after Moses is gone.

My view is that rookies salaries are set regardless of position. Signing a good ILB is a lot cheaper than signing a good edge or WR assuming you can even find one. The nice thing about inside linebackers is that the franchise tag doesn’t distinguish between olb and ilb so ilb’s are never tagged

The Giants taking an edge rusher when they already have 3 solid players at that position and had needs elsewhere (like WR) was...interesting.

If I ever become NFL GM, screwing up the draft will be the least of your worries.

The whole Pats announcing Vrabel will miss the last draft day for counseling is just hilarious. I’m sure they couldn’t have started counseling on Monday.

He needs financial counseling to handle the divorce settlement.

Belichick had an affair and divorce while he was in NE, too. While Kraft waited for Myra to die before he had his romantic issues, he's not going to let the Vrabel news impact his coaching group

The so-called NFL experts were TERRIBLE at predicting Round 1 of the 2026 Draft.

The best was Phil Perry of NBS Sports Boston at 31.97% accurate:

ESPN's Field Yates: 25.72%
ESPN's Peter Shrager: 22.36%
VSIN's Tim Murray (who was horrific in weekly college basketball predictions): 20.19%

The average score across 1,455 mock drafts was 9.84%.

When you sign up for your fantasy football league full of friends or family (or both), you aren’t trying to win. You are just trying to not lose. Especially if there’s a last place punishment involved. It typically doesn’t get more humiliating than having one random draft day in August determine the next couple months of your life, and ultimately lead you to a last place punishment.

A 10-team league sent out their 10th place (dead last) finisher out to trick-or-treat in June [when Halloween is October 31], and the video of it has gone viral. The last place finisher had to dress up as a wizard (looks like Harry Potter to me) and get at least 10 pieces of candy. When you watch the video below, you’ll see that the requirements of the punishment stretched to really any item that people were willing to part with… since a lot of people don’t keep trick-or-treat candy at the ready in the dead of the summer.

Looks like he got a couple of actual pieces of candy… and at least one can of soup.

Most fantasy football leagues have no punishment, as many are anonymous people participating from the Internet. But the problem in many of those leagues are people who stop managing their team, which skews the overall results unfairly for those who actively participate. Example: continuing to play players who are out injured or otherwise no longer starting.

Mahomes agrees a two year extension to his current contract, making him the first $500 million dollar player, and the highest paid player in the history of the NFL. Chief for life.

L'Jarius Sneed has rejoined the Chiefs from the Titans. Great addition to an already elite defence.

Unfortunately, there's been little activity to resolve the Chiefs perennial issue - the O-Line. Looks like another season of relying on the defence to hold the opposition at bay, and hoping Mahomes can do what only he does - if he returns for '26. Likely to be a long season if he doesn't...
