The next starting catcher for the Washington Nationals. Hopefully he doesn't burn the White House down when he gets back.

You don't remember Luis Ayala, Chad Cordero's setup man, having offseason surgery on his elbow before coming back prematurely to pitch in the WBC for Mexico?  Blew it out again and had to have Tommy John.   :hang:   Had compiled 5.6 WAR in 3 seasons with the Expos/Nats and though he came back to throw parts of 7 seasons was never the same.

Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, March 18, 2006
VIERA, Fla., March 17 -- Washington Nationals right-hander Luis Ayala, an essential set-up man in the team's stalwart bullpen, will undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow after suffering an acute ligament sprain in the World Baseball Classic. The news left Nationals officials livid about the way Ayala -- who underwent offseason elbow surgery -- was handled by the Mexican team and highlights the potential perils of the WBC, which puts major league players in competitive situations at a time when they would normally be building slowly toward the season.

Nationals President Tony Tavares said the club had repeatedly communicated its concerns about Ayala to officials from the Mexican team, the WBC and Major League Baseball, as well as to Ayala. An official appeal to prevent Ayala, 28, from playing was denied because medical reports showed that he was on pace to recover for the season.

Closest to an upset so far this tournament. Panama walks in tying run in the 9th then surrenders a walkoff to PR in the 10th.

And then gives up a two run HR the next inning to blow the lead.

slaughter rule actually helps losing teams thin on pitching because they don't have to use all their arms. Was thinking GBR could have used a few more USA runs in the 6th or 7th and saved their bullpen
