from Zuckerman on substack

I wonder if they knew they were going to have to limit Josiah and said screw it, we'll just 60 day IL him and work him back up in June.

Henry is said to have rotator cuff strain. I remember when a torn rotator cuff meant the end for a pitcher. A strain? Would that be a stretched rotator cuff?

Nope. It’s a tear that doesn’t fully separate from the bone.

Crews, Franklin, & Hassell are all starting tonight in Rochester, so JY is probably fine.

He needs a day off. Did not have to throw after his hand was wacked. Probably nothing more than a day or so.

I had one 30% torn from the bone.  It's a completely debilitating injury, I couldn't even lift my arm more than a few inches above full hanging down initially.

So is a tear always at the bone?  Some % from 1-100%?

I believe it can tear from either end. I couldn’t remember if tendons were bone/bone or bone/muscle when I posted.

I'll add my 2 cents. About 2 years ago I had a lot of pain in my right shoulder. Had a crappy time sleeping and finally found that if I kept my right arm raised I could fall asleep. Went to my ortho and he did the X-rays and then an MRI. He gave me his diagnosis and said my rotator cuff was not intact and surgery could take care of it. However, having spent half my life in physical therapy I was not very enthusuastic to under go the long and painful rehab. In addition, I live alone and the limitations on my mobility precluded any semblence of independence. At my request, he placed me in PT. After a considerable amount of time my PT said he  could not justify me continuing because of medicare limitations. I am able to sleeep with my arm raised and I barely feel any discomfort. I feel I made the correct decision and if anyone is facing rotator cuff surgery explore the alternative. As an aside I am friendly with the son of an American Olympic skier and he told me his father had over 20 surgeries and the worst was the rotator cuff.

I tore my right rotator cuff in a fall maybe 10 years ago.  I elected to self-heal...and it did in...about 2 years.  It is not quite the same, having healed unaided, but I do not regret not having it surgically repaired...

Did you use a scotch brite pad on road rash?  8)

Rubbing a little dirt on it always worked for me.

Passive hanging addresses the root cause of rotator cuff injuries for old guys like us - impingement as gravity pulls the shoulder structure down impinging on one of the rotator cuff tendons.  You just need a bar to hang from (not to be confused with a bar to hang out in).

Thanks, Tom. I hurt my shoulder throwing to outfielders on my son's Little League team. Maybe it's the rotator cuff. Well, I tore a tendon on the inside of my elbow showing off in 10th grade gym class. Didn't warm up up for Prtesident Kennedy's physical fitness test. Wanted to out-throw some big seniors from the football team.

To be clear, you can probably convince the bar you hang out in to let your bring a bar you can hang on.

You might be correct medically, but that guy reminds me of the episode where Bobby Brady thought hanging from a bar like that would make him taller.

explains Lord closing last night. Beeter had one appearance over the last 10 days (4/21 vs ATL up 11-4), so I'm guessing he's  been hurting for a while and tried to pitch through it.

he warmed up Friday but didn’t enter the game. Zuck says the Nats are hopeful it isn’t serious.

Butera says Beeter's MRI was clean and he's been cleared to resume throwing.

Which means TJ in May.
