Which means he can't pitch until late May at the earliest.

Had elbow surgery. Probably not back until after the deadline, hopefully taking Griffin of Cavalli's spot

If they need the 40 man spot, I imagine they will move him there

Paxton Schultz will open the season on the IL with elbow discomfort. Zuck notes he hasn't pitched since 2/28 but is throwing off a mound and could be ready for a rehab assignment soon.

Doesn't that usually mean TJS coming? Or that he has not recovered from it?

It is a precursor, sometimes. But he just had it so ...

Josiah Gray to the 60-Day IL with a flexor strain.

Edit: Looks like there's two threads.

Reading Zuck, this  is how they opened a spot for Perez on the 40 man roster. They also placed Paxton Schultz on the 15 day IL to open a spot on the active roster for perez

if Mikolas is hurt, then Ribalta because we need bullpen help and both Lord and Henry threw 50+ pitches. Neither likely available Friday. You still may want Cornelio or Alvarez for the rotation, in which case you send Ribalta or someone else out next time this slot comes up in the rotation

Cornelio is not ready and, frankly, is half a season a way from being turned into a reliever.

Alvarez was Pitcher of the Week. He pitched tonight: 5 innings, 2 hits, 2 ER, 6 strikeouts and 3 walks.
