I'm  surprised that doesn't happen more. Tough to cut off, hug the wall, carom deep. How do you play that if you can't cut it off? Play the 2nd carom?

Absolute Keystone Kops performance by Dodgers LF Teoscar Hernandez on this inside-the-park home run:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/U5cdYbWbQhA

I like how at first he runs too slowly towards the ball but then later on the play he outruns it.
did you see the play where the diving fielder forced the ball into the grass and couldn't pull it out? Also an inside the ballpark home run.

David Laurila's Sunday notes has a tribute to the late Jason Collins in his not-quite so "random hitter-pitcher matchups."
Quote
RANDOM HITTER-PITCHER MATCHUPS

Jason Heyward went 16 for 42 against Stephen Strasburg.
Jason Giambi went 23 for 37 against Darren Oliver.
Eddie Collins went 23 for 43 against Jack Warhop.
Dave Collins went 20 for 43 against Charlie Hough.
Joe Collins went 15 for 32 against Ellis Kinder.

They can only blame 3 of those losses on Skubal being injured.

White Sox rookie Sam Antonacci became the 11th player to be hit by a pitch twice in one inning against the Giants last night. Antonacci now tied for most HBP in all of MLB with another rookie, JJ Wetherholt of the Cardinals.

The last MLB player to manage this rare fear, rarer than a perfect game? CJ Abrams who did it against Arizona in 2025. Abrams was actually hit by a third pitch in a different inning of that same game. Nobody has ever been HBP three times in one inning.

Somewhere, Nick Collasanto must be taking notes to help with his character

Here's a good resume of the 'Tarps Off' trend - bringing that soccer ambiance to MLB...   ;) (the embedded video also features a familiar dog...)

Looks like it runs thru 2027, with a club option for 2028...

Watching the Pirates have a big comeback late against the Dodgers. 6-1 lead with Shohei starting and now 9-6 Pirates. Crazy stuff happens and not just to the Nats.
