the orioles manager took a foul ball to the face tonight. Looked to be pretty shaken up.

Contract Extension Details (2027–2034):
Total Value: $150 million guaranteed ($160M max).
Signing Bonus: $14 million.

Messick took a no-hitter into the 9th inning. Too bad he didn't finish, since those are becoming more and more exceedingly rare.

I know when Lorenzen did it for the Phillies a few years ago he was totally useless the rest of the season.

Cora and 5 coaches let go, including his bench coach and 3B coach. Varitek to be reassigned to organization. WooSox manager Chad Tracy named interim manager. Pitching coaches retained.

What's happening to the Red Sox? They have been the most successful team of the 21st century (though the Dodgers probably will surpass them soon), they've been powered by a ruthless combination of being good at scouting/drafting/developing and being willing to spend 2000's Yankees money, and they pioneered the whole Ivy League nerd GM thing. Yet the last two GMs seem like not just complete morons, but complete morons without social graces.

Red Sox fans seem to blame the owner but he's been there for 20+ years for the entire run of success.

Henry has tightened up the money. They try to outsmart everyone on their pickups rather than h an spend. The one area they spend on is early extensions,  which again is trying to outsmart everyone. Bloom had a particularly tough mandate, which was to cut a high budget team back. That led to the structure of the Mookie deal. I forget whether the Sale deal was Bloom or Breslow. Just no value back on either deal.  Sam Kennedy is an awful mouthpiece for FSG. As for Breslow  he's arrogant and willing to deal, but this season every move imploded. There was a thought that spending on a big pitching staff and better d could make up for the loss of offense but its not worked that way.

Tarik Skubal undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow. Out 2-3 months. Tough blow for Detroit, but if I'm Toboni i'm looking at what it would take to package with Griffin to get Max Clark. :)

Detroit now has 3/5ths of its rotation on the IL.

Jose Altuve is being mocked for swinging at a sweeper the other night that was at least 2' off the plate. Someone created a video showing that even if Altuve were swinging himself as the bat, he still would have missed the pitch.

Absolute worst baserunning you will ever see results in an unassisted double play by the LEFT FIELDER.

Absolute Keystone Kops performance by Dodgers LF Teoscar Hernandez on this inside-the-park home run:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/U5cdYbWbQhA

I like how at first he runs too slowly towards the ball but then later on the play he outruns it.
