For those of you who still wear business suits...cuffs of straight leg?  Pant will not be pleated and will feature some break at the bottom.  Keep in mind, I'll be 74 this month...

My rule of thumb has always been cuffs with pleats only...

I last wore a suit for work back in the oughts...last bought one 5 years ago and went with straight leg...wonder what current fashion dictates?  This is to hang in the closet for the inevitable wedding or funeral.

TIA

Edit...went with the rule of thumb...no cuffs...

I have inherited my late FiL's "D.O.M" weddings & funerals tie...the pattern is made up of tiny images of an old guy in a burberry coat flashing his sagging bits. So I'm probably a poor candidate for sartorial advice  :P

I haven't really talked about it much because quite frankly, it was embarrassing but in October of 2025 my contract expired and I wasn't placed on a new contract within the company. It was due to a multiftude of factors. DOGE requiring federal employees back to the office also meant that contractors were expected back into the office as well (of which there aren't many around Chattanooga and I am in a lease so I can't relocate) The company I was working for had just be acquired by an international firm and we were just a portfolio of resumes for their next bid, the government shutdown, etc. All that to say, at the end of the day, I lost the sense of tribe that I had when I first moved back to DC and became disposable and eventually disposed of unceremoniously.

I was able to keep myself afloat through the holidays and then some before I really started looking at options but the job market here is pretty bleak.

I ended up getting picked up by a staffing/temp agency and took a data entry role for much less that I was used to making, but hey, whatever keeps the rent paid, the fridge full and the lights on, right?

I was entering lab data and then I figured I would ask if I could apply for a lab tech role if one became available. The lab manager liked me and said "sure" and told me to apply. I got selected for that role. A little bit better pay, but not by much but at least I wasn't a temp anymore.

Fast forward a few months... I just signed my second offer letter for them and starting Monday, I am the Senior Manager of Customer Relations overseeing all Department of War contracts for a company that is distancing themselves from the commercial market and focusing solely on the aerospace industry for all things that go zoom or boom. Additionally, the facility is only 6 minutes away from my apartment.

Sorry about the bumps in the road, but awesome how it worked out. This bit above is how I feel about it - had to do something very similar in 2001 when the tech bubble burst, and went the same route of turning a job I was massively overqualified for from a temp gig to a slightly better long term gig to a much better position when the company realized what I could do. Amazing what showing up to work and putting in the effort regardless of the task can do and how much people notice it, ya know?

Awesome! Nothing beats the feeling of landing a regular gig after a dry spell...I know this firsthand. Congrats my man.

An encouraging account of tenacity over adversity - although I would have thought Amtrak must be pretty big in your parts... ;)

I don't know what your personal beliefs are, but the only way I can sum it up is "Sometimes God puts you through what you went through so you can end up where he wants you."

Andy and Czabe was peak local sports radio. I’ve tried listening to Tony and Czabe’s podcasts and they’re just kind of sad

Been experiencing today's partial solar eclipse, over here. We weren't in the totality zone, but still had 95% coverage. Quite eerie to watch the light fade, and the temperature drop (especially noticable as today was one of the hottest days of the year, in these parts). All over far too quickly - only took about six minutes from sun to dusk and back to sun. I've experienced the Aurora, which is always quite magical, so still the totality left to do... ;)

An employee of the DC Sanitation Dept decided to end it all, whilst at work. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances - they're treating it as a clear case of sewercide... ;)

Thieves in Montclair, California stole a truck with 50,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I bet they think they stole beer!   :hysterical:

we were never blocked at my old work because we were too obscure to come to their attention
