Computer issue...
Have a Dell All-In-One...have had it for 5+ years...
I'm generally happy with it, but over the past few days, it will randomly disconnect from the internet. I go to settings and tell it to reconnect...it says it's connected when it really isn'n't.
All the other internet devices in the house continue to work without issue.
This one will then reconnect after between 30 and 90 minutes without me having done anything to really prompt it.
Any thoughts?
If I were to buy a new All-In-One...what sort of device should I purchase to move my programs and data over from the old one to the new one without importing this issue as well?
TIA
I would expect it's a hardware issue rather than a profile issue so you shouldn't need to worry about it moving to a new machine with you, or security software. Here's a few quick notes on what you can do to troubleshoot:
If you've got expired antivirus software, uninstall it. McAfee is -notorious- for screwing you over if you let their products expire. They will simply block DNS traffic so your machine shows that it's online but when you pull up a web browser you get nothing. If that fixes the issue, there are other free products out there, or you can use Windows Defender - it's honestly massively improved over what it used to be.
To deal with the most likely hardware issues, click on Start, type 'cmd,' look for 'command prompt' in the results, right click it and select 'Run as administrator.'
After it opens the window, type
netsh int ip reset and press enter. Should say 'Ok' after a second or two. Then, shut down your computer normally, disconnect the power cable, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds, then plug the power cable back in and fire it up.
Lastly, you can create a new profile and use that for a bit to see if the issue happens there as well. If it does, you don't need to worry about it following you if you move.
