Absolutely perfect day today.

Just saw that Capital Weather Gang is splitting off from the Washington Post and will just be Capital Weather going forward.

My goal is to avoid being inside for the rest of the day. Not surprising to see the post becoming less Washington.

Does that mean the Post will publish it's own independent bullcrap forecasts going forward?

Now look, I'm not doubting it's going to be disgustingly hot, but you guys are going to make me go buy an old fashioned kitchen window thermometer with these charts.  No way is it going to be 105 (he said, attempting to will it otherwise)

Carrot is already backing down - has a high of 97 on Wednesday down from 103 earlier today, 101 down from 104 of Thursday and 103 down from 105 on Friday. I wouldn’t be surprised if we touch 100, but this reminds me of a foot of snow a week out turning into an inch

Capital Weather updated their forecast a few hours ago:
https://www.capitalweather.com/live/#confidence-grows-in-a-dangerous-heat-wave-for-the-dc-area-next-week

Models this far out will not be 100% accurate, but there is pretty good agreement there is a significant, if not historical, heat wave starting around Wednesday that could see multiple days with temps over 100 degrees in the region.

Quote
Computer models have come into strong agreement that a heat wave in the DC area later this week will be unusually intense and dangerous. Highs are forecast to surpass 100 degrees on multiple days, including July 4, and could flirt with the all-time record of 106.

Thursday and Friday are expected to be the hottest days, but it may remain uncomfortably hot into the July 4 holiday weekend. This heat will pose health risks, especially for people spending extended time outdoors or without reliable access to air conditioning.

Factoring in humidity, heat indexes — a measure of how hot it feels — will probably peak near or above 110 degrees Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service will very likely issue excessive heat warnings.

The Weather Service is already highlighting a "prolonged period of extreme heat and humidity" for the DC area from Tuesday through the weekend. Its forecast highs of 104 and 105 degrees on Thursday and Friday would set records for those dates and come within a degree or two of DC's all-time record high of 106 set in 1918 and 1930.

Between Thursday and Saturday, overnight lows will probably only fall to around 80 to 85 degrees near downtown, also threatening records. The lack of overnight cooling is a major health concern, particularly for people without housing or access to air conditioning.

Some computer models are simulating highs as extreme as 105 to 110, but they have a known tendency to overestimate temperatures several days in advance. Even so, the potential for exceptional heat is greater than usual because of the ongoing drought. Dry soils allow more of the sun's energy to heat the air rather than evaporate moisture from the ground.
