So if snow hardens with the weather so cold is it still snow or is it ice? Inquiring minds want to know.

We had maybe an inch of ice on our front porch that came down after I shoveled on Sunday. After most of the porch being in the sun all morning yesterday, my son was able to break most of it up with a hammer. The area that had been in the shade was too solid to break up.

Your point about the shade has me deferring any more effort on ours until Saturday morning. Our front yard and driveway face east and thus get morning sun, but because I telecommute, I haven't been able to get out there in the mornings so far. I spent about two and a half hours out there Monday afternoon and evening and my back still aches, so I figure I may as well just leave it until the weekend. We don't need to go anywhere anyway.

These are just models...otherwise known as a fact in their own mind...

used to be a day you'd say you were going to look at models on WNFF and you'd call up the Beautiful Women thread.

They make them for “weeding”. Harbor Freight has them $50 or so. I imagine it would take a prohibitive amount of propane to melt even a half inch of inch off of a 50 foot driveway.

Wife says I can’t have one.

We'll be lying in baking heat, gasping in the dust in the meagre shade of dead trees as vultures circle overhead in a couple of months, just let the crap melt

CWG says overnight models still keep snow down toward eastern NC / DelMarva / Tidewater.

Finally cleared the ice (or whatever  ) from our sidewalk.  Definitely OK with missing out on the next storm.

i just cut a ramp from our driveway onto the ice covering our cul-de-sac. I was able to get out last night in 4WD low, and my son has been able to get out in his Subaru, but i'm not sure yet that I trust attempting a departure with our FWD vehicles.

Our HOA has a plow and a Bobcat type thing going through our street today. I'm glad I hadn't yet dealt with the plow-caused mound in front of our driveway because as part of what they're doing, so far they've knocked away at least half of what had been there.

Our Subaru is free and doing well. Front wheel drive Hyundai is probably stuck in our driveway until ice melt or rock salt is back in stock somewhere

The outdoor patio of Walter’s sports bar by Nats park collapsed from the weight of snow/ice. It had already been slated for demolition and was roped off. Video:

Some snow totals from yesterday via CWG:
Quote
* 11" in Charlotte was 4th most on record in a single day
*15" in New Bern, NC
* 8" in Myrtle Beach

The storm brought snow as far south as Sarasota FL.

Watch out for ice damming on your roof. We woke up a few days ago to water everywhere - soaked carpets, wet drywall, and warped wood floors. Insurance’s mitigation company came out and tore up the wet carpets, cut holes in the drywall to air out the wetness, and set up 9 LOUD fans to dry out everything. Sigh. But very glad we have insurance.

Wow, not sure what you can even do about ice damming on your roof, get up on a ladder and bring a couple hundred pounds of ice sheet down on your face after loosening it up?  I've heard of a neighborhood incident where portions of a deck were wrecked by falling ice, and another one (not AI) where multiple cars parked outside an apartment building had serious damage in a single ice slide.
