I just think the hyperbolic adjectives and damage estimates are a bit over the top...

What's worse...nobody calls them out when things they predict don't come to pass...

FWIW...the first flurries are supposed to start in an hour, and they're calling for about 1/2" of frozen rain here...so we'll see...

Come on man,

You and I grew up in a time where we were promised we would die in a nuclear war. If you can survive that disappointment then a simple weather forecast should be a cakewalk

No VaRK posts about how this is a bs storm in several hours. Must be buried under 5 inches of sleet

Funny you mention that...I did "flashback" to the "Duck and Cover" days when I posted about the weather forecasters...I still remember the fallout shelter signs in the hallways...

Got about 4-5” here so far. Sleeting now as well. CWG and Wxrisk nailed this one.

CWG had 8 inches for Alexandria, I doubt we got 3. Not even enough for the kids to sled

Yup...and a good 15" shy of the 17" they initially predicted...

We're getting a very light...what they are calling mixed precipitation now, and reportedly some frozen rain over the next 4 hours or so...and then, poof...the Catastrophic Storm of 2026 will be over...just like that one back in 2025!

Don't forget to turn the lights off...doesn't look like they're gonna go out by themselves...   :hysterical:

We need to go back and re-read what they told us at the start of the week...then it won't seem like such a dud!

CWG noted around 8am:
Quote
We predicted 5-9" of snow AND Sleet.

Most spots inside Beltway 4-5" of snow and we have 1-3" of sleet on the way.

This has played out EXACTLY how we communicated if you read our detailed briefings.

LOL...how convenient to ignore their prior "Predictions!"  Those guys are the Nate Silver of Weather...

How soon we forget...

every weather account i follow is currently freaking out about this storm (and not just wxrisk).  Updated Euro from The Weather Channel below. If something like this occurs, it would be historic in terms of impact across a massive chunk of the country. Follow on temps are below freezing for much of the region the following week.

In fairness, it is affecting a huge swath of the country and impacting the south hard. 10,000 flights canceled

So midway through the storm they correctly predicted the storm

Kind of like when you leave a game in the 5th inning because the Nats are trailing 13-0 and you know how it's gonna turn out by that time...

We've been experiencing an over-abundance of knee jerk reactions to non-events lately...not just this weekend's weather.  Such are the times...

Go back to page 3 in this thread, their snow map posted on Thursday is accurate.

"If something like this occurs"

You keep missing that part.

In fairness, it is affecting a huge swath of the country and impacting the south hard. 10,000 flights canceled

About 800k without power last I saw.

Var is seemingly upset because models a week out aren't accurate. If thats' his standard, he's always going to be upset.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was able to use the forecasts to prepare.

FWIW, this was WXRisk's first call map posted on Friday:

You referred to that as a guess.  So a blind squirrel found a nut 48 hours in advance of a relatively non-event after having freaked out about the storm of the millennium...

Seems legit...
