Subscriptions have probably lower than expected (consistent with low attendance) and they’re panicking.
It looks like about 2/3s of the teams that mlb.tv is handling dropped to $44.99, and the rest to $89.99, with the Nats the only one at the $49.99 price. I think MLB is involved in the pricing. It all probably depends on how the contracts with the cable cos panned out.
MLB and the teams would likely rather have more subscribers at a cheaper rate but if they still are getting carriage fee revenue from Comcast/Xfinity, then they can't go too low as there is no value in what they are paying.
