IT could have been him with Duane and Eric if he had stuck with it.

I heard a while ago that he was suffering from dementia. Maybe nobody more responsible for the rise of cable television than him.

And of course, he brought WCW to the masses.

Funeral scheduled for Saturday at 6:05 PM

And the impact of having the Braves on a “superstation.” Really expanded their popularity and enhanced their value.

I’ll always remember this because it got Dick Ruthven back to the Phillies and helped the 1980 title. Ruthven and Tommy Hutton very attractive blonde twins.

“Some of his misbehavior is relatively innocent, if unjustified, familiarity. But it can lead to ugliness. When he pinched the wife of former Atlanta Braves Pitcher Dick Ruthven, the player made the incident public and demanded, successfully, to be traded. Jane Turner keeps her opinion of such exploits to herself.”

This is a pretty good piece on Turner and the source of that quote.

I sailed on Turners personal boat Tenacious on several races on the Chesapeake Bay in 1977 the year he won the Americas Cup with US 26 Courageous. I was friends with the person who took care of his boat and his navigator Gary Jobson. I was one of 19 crew who sailed with him. There were several crew who were on Courageous on the races in the bay. He was quite a character and lived up to his moniker The mouth of the South.

Owning the Braves was cheaper than paying royalties for Gilligan’s Island reruns.

Best quote I heard was that he did what we all aspire to do if we get rich: spend our money on baseball and pro wrestling. :)

I bet you wouldn't have such glowing things to say about him if he'd founded Fox instead of CNN :P

But I like this take

Don't forget the time Turner signed a free-agent pitcher and introduced him as Andy "Channel" Messersmith. The reason became apparent when they assigned him jersey number 17:

i grew up watching GCW/WCW on the Superstation at 6:05 PM on Saturday nights, so what can I say? He introduced the world to the "Nature Boy", Wooooo!!

FWIW, AEW did a nice tribute to him last night, led by Tony Schiavone and Sting.

Well yea because CNN came first and wasn’t really political back then.

I also remember a story that was told about him. He was sailing a yacht designed by a pretty well known marine architect that didn’t perform to his expectations due to the blunt stern (rear) and he turned to the architect and said a “turd is tapered on both ends”.
