2026 Winter Olympics
« on: January 09, 2026, 07:11:13 pm »
The 2026 winter olympics start in a bit less than a month and the hockey arena isn't ready. They tried holding a test game today and the ice is melting.

Lindsey Vonn had to be airlifted after crashing at an event in Switzerland according to Yahoo Sports. No word on severity of injuries.

You know how there is a TV commercial airing fairly regularly with some little girl who dreams about being a figure skater in a room full of stuffed animals? The piano riff from the Stones' "She's a Rainbow" plays during that ad, although they overdubbed a female vocalist. I found myself thinking it would be funny (to Americans, anyway) if an actual figure skater were to use that song this year.

I've skied that course and it's got some teeth.  Maybe not quite as hard overall as the Hahnenkamm but your joints are gonna take a crapload of stress at that speed.

And we're underway: US women's hockey blowing out the Czech Republic.  Currently 5-1.

Sudtirol is like <1% of the Italian population and yet half the winter Olympic team has German names. Tennis stud Jannik Sinner too for that matter

I'd have thought that chicken vindaloo and Taco Bell would be the true performance enhancers in that sport

Watching the opening ceremony I thought to myself the Italians are almost as weird as the French.

Jinxed them.  Lost to Great Britain who is undefeated. Still looking good for medal rounds.

So Lollibrigida wins the gold for Italy in the women’s 3000 meter skating. Not Gina.

A 35 year old set an Olympic record. Italian chemistry deserves a piece of that medal
