I saw some great geezer punk rock on Saturday...Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones,  and The Ruts in Customs House Square in Belfast. Jake Burns has less hair and more gut than in the old days but he is still very much in his musical prime.

I spent the weekend on Lake Michigan and decided to listen all of the OutKast albums again in order. Man they are good. I’m glad they had their commercial success, but sad that the popular songs are what they are known for. 

Stankonia and Aquameni are genuine masterpieces.

BTW & FWIW, I saw Miles Davis perform in a very small theater back then.  I was really into his stuff at the time.

Saw Jason Isbell at Wolf Trap last week, then Robert Earl Keen at the Birchmere last night.  Both shows were really good.  Had never seen Isbell, his band was top notch and he had a lot of energy.

When I was a kid in Bangkok, my best friend's older brother cranked that album until the vinyl croaked. It could not be replaced so he just sang it (cringe) until the bootleg cassettes started to appear on the streets.

This album has been certified platinum 18 times.  At one point it was the best selling album of all time. Saturday Night Fever and Thriller eventually overtook it.

You guys are ancient. I was a college sophomore when that came out. I didn’t have the album but you could not go anywhere without hearing it.  Saw them when they toured after it.  Was disappointed they did not play Hitch a Ride.  I think Sholz did not want to take acoustic guitars on tour for one song. It was a short set.  Just the album minus that one and a couple other songs.

Funny thing is, even though the band was named Boston,  they weren't really a band that played up there or had a local following before they broke nationally. Just some MIT geek who recorded a lot of tracks and overdubs to get his sound (Tom Scholz). The song "rock and roll band" really didn't reflect how they came up. This is in contrast to The Cars, who had played the local clubs.

I don't think they toured. It does say they were  playing in Rhode Island, so maybe they did a few shows down there. But their music wasn't made to play live. Scholz used to multi-track his guitar. Delp's vocals also don't sound like they would live.

FWIW, Google  AI "confirms" they only went on tour after the album came out. Most of  the album was recorded in Scholz's basement studio. When i asked Grok, they he said  would you like pics of Tom Scholz's wife . . .
