Nats sign 3B Devin Ortiz to a minor league deal. Signed in 2022 with the Padres out of UVA. Assigned to Harrisburg. Had been released by the Cubs organization after posting a .451 OPS at AA. At 27 he's a depth piece, maybe to cover for King's injury?

Todd Boss makes the point that there will be more releases because there are caps on the total number on roster in the domestic minors organization. Something like 165 not on the development list, 60 day IL, or the mlb 40 man, iirc.

a few low-level prospects released today. Biggest name is probably Carlos Tavares who played in the 2025 spring breakout game. Just 20 and struggled in low-A last year and in the FCL this year.

Nick Peoples also released (2022 12th round pick, never made it beyond low-A)

Nats claim RHP submariner Wyatt Mills from the Dodgers and send him to Rochester. 5.68 ERA in 6.1 IP. Made it to the majors with Seattle, then was traded to KC. Underwent TJ in 2023, pitched in the minors for Boston in 2025 before being released.
