Nats released Matt Mervis. Back to his other diamond career I suppose.

yah, this seemed likely, especially with Chappy back at Rochester. They have been playing Morales at 3rd to keep 1B open for Abi and Chappy while Franklin and outfielders rotate through DH.

RHP Austin Amaral promoted to Harrisburg. 16th round draft pick in 2023, working his way back from an injury. Pitched well at A+ and AA last year and could be someone to watch.

Nats claimed 26 year old RHP Chandler Champlain from the Royals on 3/31 and assigned him to Rochester. Started his second game yesterday and put up 4⅔ IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 5K

Nats trade MI Zach Short to the Tigers for cash considerations. Had been at Rochester. Not on the 40-man.

Could open the door to a Seaver King promotion?

Who are the MIs at Rochester now? Glasser, Lipscomb, and some 30 year old named Levi Jordan is what roster resource has.

seems to be the obvious move. I'll be curious whether it opens up a chain of promotions. Wilmington has several MIs, too. Fitz-Gerald has been dominant, Curz, just showed up, they'll want to give Feliz some playing time even thought he's not doing well . . .

I’d fast track Cruz.

Also on Friday, the Nationals acquired cash or a player to be named later from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for infielder Zack Short, sources said. Short will report to Detroit’s Triple-A affiliate. Washington had traded for Short in March in a deal that sent cash considerations to the New York Yankees. The 30-year-old has not played a game in the majors this season.

Nats signed former Red Sox prospect LHP Noah Dean on March 30, he is heading to the FCL. I assume he was dealing with some sort of injury as he was in A+ and AA last year. Struck out 82 in 66 innings but also walked 49.

https://www.milb.com/player/noah-dean-688629

https://bloggingtheredsox.com/2026/03/31/former-red-sox-pitching-prospect-noah-dean-signs-minor-league-deal-with-nationals/

Quote
In 22 appearances (15 starts) for Greenville last year, Dean posted a 5.68 ERA with 81 strikeouts to 48 walks over 63 1/3 innings in which he held opponents to a .219 batting average. He reached Double-A Portland for the first time in September and was solid in his lone outing for the Sea Dogs, scattering one hit and one walk while striking out one across 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief.

Altogether, Dean owns a lifetime 5.35 ERA with 284 strikeouts to 175 walks across 66 career minor league appearances (47 starts) spanning 208 2/3 innings between Low-A, High-A, and Double-A. He has struck out nearly 30% of the batters he faced while limiting opponents to a .198 clip, but his 18.4% walk rate highlights ongoing issues with command and control.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Dean features a 93-95 mph fastball that reaches 97 mph. The athletic southpaw has also incorporated an 80-83 mph curveball, an 88-92 mph cutter, an 82-83 mph sweep, and a 77-79 mph curveball into his arsenal in the past, as noted in his SoxProspects.com scouting report.

CF Dashyll Tejeda heading from the FCL to Fredricksburg. 20 year-old signed from the DR in 2023.

.268   .376   .323 with 29 SBs in the FCL last year.

2022 Scouting report:
Quote
Dashyll Tejeda De los Santos is a 2024 OF/ with a 6-1 160 lb. frame from Santo Domingo, NC who attends Sports Academy. Recorded a 6.96 second 60-yard dash time. Slender frame with a high waist and room to project. Primary outfielder with aggressive inward actions and a confident approach. Quick shoulder and moves fast. Good decisions with on the target throws up to 84 mph. Right-handed hitter with an even and slightly open stance. Big forward move with a small, fast hitch. Really excellent bat speed with a line drive oriented stroke. Sequence is efficient with good lower half timing and power will be vast at maturity. Good student.

#51 on Todd Boss' 2026 top-104 list. Will set up a FTP for him at some point.

Nats sign 32 year-old LHP Alex Young to a minor league deal. Starting out at the FCL and then probably to Rochester. Last pitched in the majors in 2024. Had TJ in the spring of 2025.
