1.5 games out of first in the Grapefruit League with 14 games remaining.

Between Cavalli, Griffin, and Littell that's potentially three rotation spots you can reasonably hope for a decent chance to win.

I've got high hopes for Gray too. Although this combination of technology and coaches love bombing the players seems to be working better with our pitchers than hitters for now. Might have needed a Frank Robinson type to get the bats going.

Anyway, haven't won the Grapefruit League since Dusty Baker was here, Martinez never came close, we're overdue.

I'm pleasantly pleased by the rotation. A year ago, I was a bit more excited about Irvin, Parker, Herz but that's been a disastrous past calendar year for them.

Cavalli, Griffin, Littell are fine rotation arms. I am intrigued by getting Josiah Gray back, and I'm hopeful of bounce backs from Mitchell Parker and Jake Irvin. Mikolas is a inning sponge for a #5 starter. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Andrew Alvarez or Brad Lord.

The first base/DH conversation is a lot more painful from my point of view than the starting rotation.

It would be nice if we could put up an average defensive effort behind the pitching.

I don't know if there will be a cut at the end of spring training that we can pick up  for 1st. Mervis will be back from the WBC after a couple more days.

Cavalli and Lord combined for 78 pitches over 6 innings today.  While I don't expect this team to be good, it'll take some sunshine on not having 1.5-2x the pitch count of the opponent through 3-4 innings as was typically the case last year.  The Lerners might be paying Spicoli DC minimum wage, but he's an upgrade over Hickey.

Reminds me of the 1950's when the Senators would have a great Spring training and would extoll their success by beating the Yankees in Florida but tank during the regilar season against the American league. Perhaps Welch would like to chime in on this subject and share his remenbrances as well.

Tied for the fewest losses. I'm thinking that if they can clinch before the final game against the Os, that the Nats should hand out t-shirts at that game.

Spoiler alert, two of the nine players that Baseball America picked for break out seasons play for the Nats.
