I'd rank them 3rd only because of all the games they make us suffer thru...162 is a lot of pain...

Suddenly the Nats look closer to the playoffs than the Commanders. Only in DC you don't have to get better, just wait for the other guys to get worse.

The way the NFL is the Commanders are still closer to the playoffs.  They have a QB and will get an easier schedule next year.

I did suspect Quinn and Kingsbury were overvalued but we shall see.

The Nats are at a minimum three years away from the playoffs.  Not clear they will spend money even if the prospects develop.

Peters blew his first draft. The Nats overcame Rizzo's draft record because the Lerner's spent big in a league without a salary cap. Will Harris clear out his brain trust or will he give them six years?

Maybe. They had the QB this year and aren't going to make the playoffs.

The Nationals are a proper payroll away from competing for a WC.

getting back on track...

So.... we've got a new GM, new manager, new front office staff, new coaching staff.

We potentially go into next season with a rotation of Gore, Cavalli, Alvarez, Lord, and a FA (ideally top of the rotation) and Gray/Parker/Irvin for depth.

We have an all-star LF in Wood who actually improved on defense. Abrams still sucks on defense, but he's a borderline all-star at the plate. King isn't far away and could shift Abrams to 2B at some point next year. There's also Nunez who has learned how to hit.

Lile is a potential all-star.

Garcia Jr is a good platoon bat against RHP, and we have Nunez.

Crews should be a lot better next year, as should Brady House.

Millas and Adams showed they could give us some production at catcher, but ideally you bring in someone else to start.

The bullpen was decent down the stretch, and we have a bonafide closer.

Add a 1B to the mix, a front-of-the-rotation starter, and a catcher and this team should be able to compete for a wild-card at least next year.

Is this Sunshine specifically for 2026 or the future in general. It's going to take a couple years to dig out of the mess Rizzo left behind. But for the first time in forever the team is in the right hands and the future is bright.

i'm looking at the FA signing period to gauge the plan. If we trade Gore and again sign some reclamation projects, it means more of the same perhaps with better analytics and on-field coaching, but no major leap forward.

Plan is already laid out. This is year 1 of the rebuild.

71-91 is actually 86-76 in MMAW, or Mini Me Adjusted Wins.

Yes, we're getting a budget friendly manager, and the Bat Boy's going to spend hours on the phone with payroll asking where his paycheck is.  And the Screech costume will have more dirt on it by August than the SW-SE Freeway underpass as it breaks a record next year for days without seeing the washing machine.  But there will be no Hickey mound visits, and that's a lot of sunshine right there.
