somehow the 6-7 meme hasn't gone away yet.
I'll give it 6-7 weeks.

Schwarber back to the Phillies.

5 years, 150 million :lmao:
They’re going all in for the next couple years. Playoffs four straight years and probably a couple more on the way.  Once you’re in you have a chance.  Well except for the Fodgers being there.  Meanwhile the Nats have six straight years of losing records and no end in sight.

They have, maybe, one more year.

Wheeler's shoulder is freaked. Nola is an albatross. Their bullpen sucks. They dont have a catcher (unless they massively overpay for Realmuto). Their core players are well over 30.

They're probably trading Sanchez and looking to offload Turner at the 2027 deadline.

But Harper's blood is clean.

The Mets should top the division next year (assuming this year was a freak occurrence), with the Braves not far behind.

From what I read today the Pirates made a four year $120 million offer to Schwarber.  So what he hit less one year.  Seems they (or anyone else) would have had it go like five years $160 million to get him. I think only the Mets might have done that.

In the realm of busted prospect moves, the Angels pick up Vaughn Grissom, the "prize" of the Sale deal.

Rosenthal says the O’s made the same offer to Schwarber as Philly.

Pingalore:
Quote
Orlando, FL
@TarikSkubal
 UPDATE I’m hearing the Skubal deal is essentially in place — the pieces are agreed to, the framework is done. What’s holding it up now is the long-term extension and ownership approval in Detroit. The
@Tigers
 won’t green-light it without the owner’s sign-off, and the
@Dodgers
 won’t ship out that kind of haul without a long-term commitment from Skubal. That’s the final hurdle.”

ok, this one shocks me.

With the Gore discussions with Baltimore, I wonder if this loosens up their hold on an MLB-ready hitter as part of a deal? On the other hand, the bloom is off Mayo, Kjerstad is a  corner OF, and Mountcastle doesn't have much control.

I think this makes a PAredes to Boston deal as a good fallback for the REd Sox.

Morosi says the Orioles are still in the mix for a big name starter. Ranger Suarez has been mentioned as a possible target.

that was certainly true last year. The analysis on mlbtr noted that they have very little committed salary after next season. Just 4 players signed for next year, and just two beyond 2027, so they have a lot of flexibility right now. Right now their payroll is down about $11M (even with Alonso) from 2025.

Yes and they still have some talented young players who are under teams control and will cost more money if they play well.  And eventually cost lots more.  Seems like a good position to be in. Some of the guys haven’t turned out as good as projected but they have a bunch of them. They got good quicker than expected and then had one bad year.

For years, they were also a laughingstock with Angelos, but now that they have a much better owner than the Nats do, they're going to have more winning seasons than this team will...until the Lerners are gone.

Skubal is going to make 22 million this year. Every team in baseball can afford that. So its just a matter of who is willing to give up the prospects

It's a lot more than that because he's Boras and his agent will want to top the Gerritt Cole deal when he reaches FA after next season.  No one's unloading their farm for one season of the guy.

One suggestion is that the Dodgers  would send Glasnow back to the Tigers as part of the package to immediately slot into the rotation.

I like the Suarez contract more than Diaz.
