Analogies only work so far. I don't think they need to go up to Rangers-level spending. I think there's are more pieces in place at more expensive positions than the Rangers had. In house,  there's probably 3 starting pitchers you won't displace (Gore, Cavalli, Lord), with abit of depth, and maybe 4-5 position players (Wood, Crews, Lile, CJ at another position, ad maybe House). Tbh, I'm also hoping that the Millas/Adams play after Ruiz's injury is a path forward at C. If you want to bring in a DH, a 1B, and another vet starter, you don't need to break the bank. It all can come together fast.

No reason not to bring Garcia back at this point. I know he’s polarizing on here. He’s more or less replacement level with the chance for more.

I’m also hoping this new FO will give glasser a real shot to make the team out of camp whether that be at 1B, 2B, OF, or all over.

Got to trade someone to jumpstart this new chapter of the rebuild.

What would the mariners give up for wood? Emerson, Ford, one of Sloan/Anderson, and some low level arms?

Always count on ZDK to think bigger than I can. Moving Wood at this point would be ballsy as all heck but would let you play Lile in left while plugging lots of other holes.

Putting that aside, some of the "let's lose Luis" sentiment here is due to wanting to move Abrams off SS. If LGJr could be signed for $5 million, it's not a ridiculous contract. Up to this year, his wOBA has tracked very close to his wOBA. This year, there's a 50 point under-performance. Is it unreasonable to think his bat is much better than his results this year? It's the D up the middle that is intolerable. Maybe the fix is a dealing CJ to a team that move him to 2nd.

More or less, I just don't think CJ, Garcia, and Young/Hassell works up the middle.

Will be interesting to see what they decide to do with CJ as he's arbitration eligible at the end of this year. I've seen estimates of around $4M which probably makes him too cheap to deal.

Holy crap we can not trade Wood for a mid-level prospect and the Mariners spare parts.

Why on earth are we rebuilding?

Emerson is a top 20 prospect in the game and major league ready. Ford is a major league ready catcher and top 50 prospect in the game. Anderson is top 30 and Sloan is top 50. We’d be talking 3 top 50 prospects in the game.

And on Abrams, trade him too.

Nunez at short, Emerson at 2B, house at 3B, Ford at catcher, Lile/crews/hassell OF, Garcia at 1B

I dont care. Wood was hitting like an MVP for the first half with Darnell Coles. You dont give that up for one decent prospect.

Ford is a terrible catcher and not a good hitter, period. Anderson and Sloan are nobodies. That is MAYBE a deal I consider for Abrams. Damn sure not for a guy that could hit 40-50 home runs regularly.

A full restart is a terrible idea for a team with this much talent.

If youre trading Wood, you may as well trade Like and Crews. This won't be a remotely competitive team for five years, and by then ownership will be too cheap to pay them for 2nd andn3rd year arb

Any rumblings on official date/presser?  I know MLB is strict about conflicting with post season news.   I am anxious to see this inked.

Maybe this hot shot can lure former Sawx DH Schwarby back to DC...

That one move alone would renew my interest in this otherwise steaming pile...

I wonder if they're trying to figure out the GM position and then introduce them both at once

no. They “aren’t being retained”

or, you could serenade them out of the clubhouse with the Fleetwood Mac tune, "Go Your Own Way."

With the Rockies and Angels dilly dallying before firing their GMs, Nationals seem smart to have moved fast. Interested to see if the GM looks set to be a serious decisionmaker based on resume or if they're using the title to get a talented person out of another organization.

Can do a "won't be retained" thing.  Either way this needs to happen soon.  Jabroni needs to start the search.
