as much we’d all rather have Bennett now you can’t actually evaluate the trade for 5 years or so. no fun thinking that way though!
he burned his last option this year. Unless he is good enough to keep his 40 man roster spot this offseason, you may lose him to waivers this offseason. Even if  he stays on the 40 man, he'll need to waived if he doesn't make the 26 man roster next spring. Bennett had more roster versatility. IF Perales still had options after 2026, I don't think the REd Sox make the deal.

fair point. we sure could use a starter with a 3.10 ERA/FIP

Via Andrew Flax: Mackenzie Gore has the second highest ERA (4.72) among starters with 100 IP.

His last 7 starts have been brutal: 5.90 ERA (though 3.42 FIP). He's allowed 16 ER in his last 3 starts (17 IP).

Absolutely the right move to trade him given the return and where this team is.

not going to gloat about Gore troubles but his value probably was at a peak this offseason. Not sure he would have been more than the 4th guy this year in the rotation behind Griffin, Cavalli, and even Alvarez.

I mean, his stats are still better than Mikolas and Littell.

Also, the Rangers are pretty terrible at pitcher development. I suspect he would be significantly better here.

Gavin Fien and Devin Fitz-Gerald are both young, but they haven't hit much at Fredburg or Harrisburg. Maybe later, but not yet.

Meh, that doesn't bother me much. They're both young and DFG is going through a lot of personal crap right now.

Time for Toboni to cash in one or two of his lottery tickets as he calls them and pick up at least one competent reliever.

Need more than one.

Honestly, this team needs a competent starting pitcher and two relievers. That's probably too much go get at one deadline.

I think you’re underestimating their needs. Let’s be honest, only two of the starters should ever pitch in the playoffs and the bullpen is only 5 pitchers away from competency

The Jake Bennett trade is going to haunt him for years. They zeroed in on a guy from their old organization and didn't even scout Bennett. Just handed him away. What a mess. I think the Vivas trade is another one that is going to look very bad in a few years.
