Belated Happy 20th WNFF!
« on: August 03, 2025, 09:32:05 am »
Not sure how this milestone passed, but from what I can tell the first real (not a test by The Chief) post on WNFF was July 5, 2005.  Chief or someone else could probably do a more thorough search of the earliest activity to determine the real date/time.

Some of the earliest posters have been inactive and along the way reclassified as "guest".  However, 2 of the very earliest remain active - JMW IV and Rileyn.  Kenz afan was another VERY active member who has since become inactive.  He was posting very frequently in January 2019 before abruptly stopping.

On July 5, 2005 the Nats were 51-32 and had just won 8 of 10, though we didn't know at the time the wheels were about to come off the cart.

Quite a bit of Nats history in these 20 years of ups and downs.  Thanks Chief for starting this forum and giving us such a treasured place to share our fandom.

Hail to The Chief, Tomterp and other long timers. JMW IV is how I discovered this place. He posted a lot on WaPo articles and I asked where else he posted his thoughts. He pointed me here around 2009, when I joined.

The member with the most posts all time is still Sportsfan882, and he's not posted since 2019, I think. Still logs in and reads threads. Another all-timer, Mitlen, stopped in 2020 but is doing ok last reports. The see you later memorial lists a few we know who've passed on.

I'm curious how current active members found out about this site.

I found out about the site from the late OldChelsea in early 2008 shortly before Nats Park opened, and my first post contained (contains, I guess!) photos I took at the first game there.

WNFF.net can no longer be opened with a Windows 7 desktop, as of a few weeks ago. This error is displayed:

"This site can’t be reached

The webpage at https://www.wnff.net/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR"

 :ballbat:

I deleted the long-standing desktop cookie and rebooted, to no avail. The only reason I am posting this is with a Chromebook. Lucky I remembered the password ...from 2005.

Note that Dave Jageler posted on Reddit that wnff.net still works!

I'm shocked anyone still knows that. I mean, WNFF is one of the few things that has been affiliated with the team longer than Ryan Zimmerman. ever time I see a direct or oblique reference to something we discuss, or an article that picks up something we've said, I get  . The adoption of a big closer entrance for Finny I think was attributed to an idea brought up here, maybe by DPMOmaha.

There's nothing I'm aware of about using Windows 7 that should technically prevent anyone from accessing the site, but given that Windows 7 support ended 5 years ago, I might surmise that you're using a very old browser version as well, which may be a more likely culprit.  If you'd like to PM me there are some details that might help me assist in troubleshooting.

Thanks for this.  The thought definitely crossed my mind earlier in the year and I'm sure I intended to make a similar post closer to the date you mentioned (July 5, which I also consider the site's "birthday"), but you how it is...  life distracts

that's not Dave Jagler, it's someone who uses the Dave Jagler flair (you can pick a name from their list that isn't already taken and use it, i have Crews of course).

I can access wnff.net with windows 7 today, so something was fixed.
 :woop:

There are millions of people who still use Windows 7 and are even installing it in computers and laptops. They don't like the bloatware and advertising tracking in Win 10-11.
