Follow the Prospects: Christian Franklin, OF

He should be up in DC soon. He's done all he can in AAA. He played in the SEC, hit okay in AA last year, done well in AAA. Let him up to the majors and let's see what he is, for better or worse.

Biggest issue is the roster crunch. Where do you play him? Who gets sent down? Crews will likely take Young's spot. Lile is raking. Wood certainly isn't going down. Seems silly to send Hassell back down as well.

given the date, I think they'll add him to the 40 man when active rosters expand by a player or two in September. As noted, he has to be added in the offseason, so giving him a little run in September is reasonable.

I'd still rather see Hassell and Crews full-time in the OF with Lile at DH and Young as the 4th OF. Not sure it makes sense to bring Franklin up to use him on a limited basis.

He's coming up when roster expands. I'm not sure Hassell has a higher upside than this guy. He should at least platoon with Hassell in CF. As for Young, he's just a defensive replacement on this roster for those times Lile is in the field.

I won't say Young isn't a bona fide MLBer. Guys with his skillset can have a career. I'm just saying he's far and away the guy who is the least interesting going forward with no upside unless he learns to hit. With options, he should be in AAA rather than blocking anyone.
