It probably won't happen, but I'd drive up to Wimington in a heartbeat to see a Fein-Willits-Dickerson Mota-Petry infield.

Where is Petry? I looked at the Wilmington roster, and, nope. Not at Fredburg, either. Nor at Harrisburg. Did he retire and I missed it?

The Fred Nats roster shows only hree outfielders, so maybe Petry is hidden there?

off to a hot start, but no home runs yet: .389 / .621 / .444 for a 1.065 OPS.

Has 2 SBs already, 4Ks and 6BBs in 18 ABs.

For a guy with a rep as not having great plate discipline when we drafted him, he seems to be taking a lot of walks last year and this. They also said he'd  take BBs when he was pitched around. if that's  what's happening, then he's being pitched around a lot. 130 PAs over last year and this, 19 BBs, 29Ks.

I suppose a guy with good plate discipline would have closer to 1:1 BB:K in low minors.

1 for 2 with a walk tonight, OPS up to .991.  Considering he was a college draftee, have to think he's not that far from a May-June Harrisburg call up.

He might move quickly if A+ isn't enough of a challenge. Memorial Day?

As I recall he was projected to be the one from his draft class most likely to make the big club, good to see he's got his feet on terra firma.

Is he able to play 1B or is he a pure DH?

The post-draft profile at the start of this thread states: “He has played a serviceable first base at South Carolina and likely will move there full-time once he turns pro.”  Based on that I’ve been hoping he’ll be our 1B of the future.

blocked there though

House has improved but are you confident that he’s the future there? We’ll find out this season but I’m not so sure.

House has proven nothing. He’s a placeholder. If he shows something and becomes a steady regular, then great. I think it’s more likely that our entire non 1B infield will be made up of some 3 man combo of king/willits/fien/fitz-gerald/cruz/dickerson/coy by opening day 2029. That’s a big pool of talent and only 3/7 need to hit to solidify our infield

With such a young team, nobody blocks anybody.

I never worry about "blocked" with any player not even in AA yet.

Quote
Petry was a mountainous Florida high schooler who ended up at South Carolina, where he posted a 1.123 career OPS and .661 SLG thanks to his strength-driven power. He struggled with strikeouts as an underclassman, but cut his K% to 17.6% in a junior season shortened by a sprained shoulder and raised his draft stock into the second round. Was the strikeout reduction (Petry had fewer in-zone whiffs versus fastballs, too) a small sample mirage, or did he make an actual adjustment? The position his hands load in seemed to change, and wasn’t as low as his sophomore year. He still had some underlying miss and chase issues (especially against elevated fastballs), and he struggled with strikeouts after the draft, including during a rough Fall League stint. Petry still hit for power and posted plus peak exit velocities, and he has been thriving in Wilmington during the early portion of 2026. He is at his best when he can get fully extended against pitches on the outer third, which he has the strength to punish from pole to pole. Though he has corner outfield experience, a lack of mobility and speed will likely relegate Petry to first base. A good outcome for him would be production similar to Luke Voit, where he’s a five- or six-hole threat in a good lineup.

For a guy with a 30-35 hit tool, according to Fangraphs, Petry has done OK by hitting .329 with .960 OPS. Maybe in June it wil be time for him to try Harrisburg.
