All true, but my BS sensors were always going off when Rizzo would talk about using more analytics etc.  Reading between the lines now, DeBartolo seems liberated and not shy about pursuing a different path, and in my view the correct one.  Are there better candidates out there?  Likely, but among the many how do you know which ones?  If you have 30 candidates, how do you know which ones are better?

So far I like his work and would be good with keeping him on, but the Lerners REALLY need to step up and support whoever GM is with the back office and player development systems needed to compete in 2026 and beyond.

I’m glad you have hope, I just don’t really get it.  I’ve never seen a fanbase seemingly okay with an internal hire any bypassing a true search in a situation like this .

I just think our odds of success would be higher if we targeted a smart leader from the Rays, Dodgers, or any other number of teams that already have established and advanced analytics, player development, etc vs expecting DeBartolo to take us to that level, having never done it himself.

I also think that a lazy internal hire is indicative of the continued lack of investment we’ll see from the Lerners, which of course is the single biggest reason for our failures IMO.

I don't know the Tigers organization, but that's one that is producing a lot from the minors, making smart deals, and improving guys when they show. Even Spencer Torkelson is working out. Brewers might be another organization to raid.

Not for nothing, but Tork made it a point to say that he spent the offseason on his own, developing his swing.

He might have gone to Boras' camp in Florida.

Bumping this since Hassell and House are on the bench tonight in favor of Young and DeJong (against a RHP)
