Yeah, Cairo is simply a bench warmer for whoever they do hire.

Cairo played 17 years in the majors because he was willing to work cheap. He’ll probably be here making $500K for eternity

If that was assigned to anyone outside of the game of baseball, I'd be stoked for them.... Hell, let me make $250k for eternity and I'd call it a win. :P

Hire someone who will scare this roster into caring. Even if only for the rest of the season.

6-4 in last 10

I like Cairo. Liked him during his White Sox interim stint. He doesn’t need a winning record, but if he stayed near .500 down the stretch he’ll deserve interviews for a full time position.

I’d rather this interim spell right now be with interim hitting and pitching coaches but can’t get everything I want in life.

Millas still isn't starting. Fire him.

Cairo I think is the Adams whisperer.

Since Cairo took over (1st game 7/8)

46 PAs, .238 / .304 / .500, 3 HR. 12 starts over 16 games.

Also, to Cairo's credit, since the ASB, he's given Millas 3 starts and Adams 7. Shocking concept that splitting time more equally among the guys playing the most demanding position can get better performance than just running one guy into the ground and giving the other so little playing time that he can't get going.

Wonder if that ever occurred to Davey as Ruiz was dragging?

I wonder if the catcher rotation continues. I still think there's a universe where Keibert Ruiz isn't ridden into the ground season after season and his performance is better and the backups aren't struggling in part due to touching a bat once a week.

the Nats are in a mode where they have to try something different with Ruiz unless they just eat his contract. My guess is that they do try to better manage his playing time, absent a Dalton Rushing walking through the door in a Gore deal. I thought last year was an absolute travesty when they played him constantly after his bad bout with the flu. In retrospect, that was a fireable offense.

I want to be a little optimistic about the catching. I think that they seem to be throwing better collectively and that their framing issues will be less important with a pitch challenge system. I like Millas the best because he's athletic, and that allows him to move better for throws and wild pitches and he can run a bit. That said, there's a world in which they run out Ruiz and Adams again next year and Millas passes through waivers and outrighted to AAA. That'll do until maybe Lomavita is ready in 2027.

On second thought: hire Girardi because young players complained that he is too demandiing. Fire Cairo and Hickey and Coles because that's showing mercy.

I like Joe and he should be considered. Still relatively young, has knowledge of NL East, hopefully some fire left and wants to manage again (if the right situation arose). It's that last part that might make this moot. Hard to think of a worse situation than the Nats right now.

I think a lot of potential managers would jump at the chance to manage guys like Crews, Wood, Gore, Abrams, etc. There are some pieces here and it's not Minnesota.

There are only 30 jobs. I'm not worried about finding a manager. I'm more interested to see who is heading the front office.

Girardi will cost too much money for Mark.

The next GM and coaching staff will be amongst the lowest paid in MLB

Don't forget Parra and Gutierrez.  I hope all these guys don't let the door hit their ass on the way out.

There's a post on Twitter noting that the A's knew it was going to be a good day when they saw we had 6 lefties in the lineup. Lefties are hitting .197 against Lopez this season vs .236 for RHBs against him. Seems like this would have been a better day to start Bell and House.

Don't expect Cairo to do that kind of research.  Easier for him to follow the Davey lefty-righty religion.

Cairo addressed this after the game. Someone asked about no House no Bell against the lefty. Cairo said House has been slumping and Bell has not hit well righty.

Could have dh'd Adams and played Millas instead of having Adams catch day after night and plating Lile in left. Said it at the top of the thread. Also could have given Bell time at 1st and Lowe a day off. Do those 2 moves and you only have 4 lefties in the lineup.

which is what he didn't do. He played the lefties against a lefty.

I get you have a narrative but at least don't go to it until the game backs it up
