I don't care if they let him go now or after the season, but commenting about going 1-0 today in a show of solidarity with Martinez is kind of an FU to ownership, it would not surprise me if he's gone sooner rather than later.

Him and about half the coaching staff.

I really dont care that they won't be back. We need to use the rest of the season to evaluate the players. To do that, we need someone else trying to coach them. Then we can determine if the player is the problem or if it was the coaching.

I'm fine with it. There's a bunch of coaches who know barring a miracle second half they're out the door soon, whatever it is they need to get through.

He can't transform ok players into good ones. But he ought to be able to fix mental inattentiveness like we saw last night.

Jim Riggleman got the job because he turned a horribly sloppy team into a halfway competent one.

Miguel Cairo did a solid job as White Sox interim. If he could clean up some of he sloppiness on this team, it wouldn't take a winning record for him to earn interviews for top jobs. Last night wasn't great but he has a few months to prove himself.

they aren't going to fire him unless he does something crazy, but once again, they really should have called on LeCroy.

he's been the bench coach all season. I can't imagine anything will change now. The team needed a different perspective.

But we've seen coaching do that.

Moreover, we've seen this same coaching staff be unable to fix things for the last three years.

Fire Cairo over the ASB. This team is the Walking Dead. Hire someone to scare them awake. Hire Joe Girardi, who was too harsh to make young players feel loved. Forget the "love" for these guys. Let Girardi pick a different hitting coach and bench coach. If the Lerners have no idea who to fire, then why dump Davey?

I'm down with this. A disciplinarian. Not Girardi though. Someone from within that you can move to the front office or the developmental staff after the season.

I mentioned Giardi because I'm in New York, and saw him frighten the Yankees. Came to mind easily. If there is anyone as tough, hire that guy tomorrow. And a coaching staff.

They need to have a team meeting or something and somebody needs to stand up and show some leadership. The same cast of players was playing much better earlier in the season. The meltdown is as much lack of focus, effort and caring as lack of skill. There may be coaching issues but the players need to step as well. What we have now is just not watchable.

If we accept that the rest of the season is lost, then we may as well soldier on with what we've got and get it right during the off-season. We would have to hope that the younger players regard slogging away, on a losing team, as a learning experience which shall make them more resilient, in the future - the danger is that they simply become dispirited and permanently damaged...

I've said it before , you can't make a purse out of a sows ear. The mental lapses and sloppy play and the base running fiascos are endemic of the players development in the Nats' minor league system. These overpaid athletes have been playing the same game since Little League. Nothing has changed as they got older and the game speeded up but the positioning, rules, covering and fielding has remained constant. The issue is no one is held accountable until it is too late. Davy was correct when he threw the players under the bus several weeks ago. Casey Stengel couldn't improve this team record by more than a few games. Rizzo was rightfully fired as his last two seasons of FA signings were a complete failure. His drafting was even worse .

As a new member, I might as well jump in. We all got a bit tired of Davey's "I love my boys" stuff, even though I think he absolutely believed it.

But when the interim guy describes two losses because his team -- or some part of it -- failed as coming from bad or unlikely breaks, that suggests he should get no consideration for the permanent job. Especially when the losses are to a better team playing in their park. Stupid!

I don’t think Cairo will shake much up. He is playing out the string. Not looking to make waves. Maybe some of it is due to the all star break and wanting to reassess over the days off, or maybe it's waiting for the roster to settle after the trade deadline, but you would think this is his best shot a managing job so he'd be trying to show he is worthy
