Rizzo and Davey Canned

Davey was a great hire and showed he could work with both veterans and kids. He was who I wanted when they hired Matt Williams. This is the business, so it isn't a complete shock, but I wonder who they think they will get as a manager to really do much. When the owners are cheap, and the GM never believes in having a bullpen, there is only so much a manager can do. I only hope this is a precursor for selling the team unless they are planning to suddenly spend money on a top GM and player talent. I doubt it. Otherwise, this could set the team back a while.

None of this matters if Lerner isn’t willing to start investing in this team.

My Poppa used to say my swing reminded him of Davey Martinez when I was a kid and he was a player.  That and him winning in 2019 makes him a legend in my book.

Rizzo certainly hasn’t been perfect in this rebuild, but absolutely nailing the Soto trade is a big reason a foundation is here to supplement and contend starting next year.

I pray this signals ownership will be serious about putting the best people in place and spending this offseason.  We need to clear the way for all younger players in the 2nd half and get a long look at who may be able to help next year and beyond.

No reason it shouldn’t be Cairo. Seems competent. Has been an interim in the past. I don’t see any reason to bump any of the minor league managers

I expect the delay is because there were will be a massive clearing out and it may get to point they just bump a minor manager or outside name.

I agree, the roster still sucks. Rizzo was kinda good tbh except for some draft picks. It's useless to fire Davey IMO. Nothing will change until they invest major $$$ in the team... not happy at all about this.

Ownership spent nothing while Bowden was here, then opened the pocketbook for Rizzo, making him look like a genius. Let's try that again, give the new guy the budget to jump start this rebuild.

Ted didn't die until 2023. The team stopped spending after 2021. 2020 was a weird year for sure, but they gave Stras the big contract and got Eric Thames and Starling Castro who was supposed to keep the bench warm and be a reasonable stopgap until Kieboom could make it.

Those things ended up being huge problems, but we also got Schwarber in 2021. It was the downturn in 2021 that solidified the start of a retool, but after that, they should have spent and they didn't. Either sell of spend this off-season, and for flips sake, build a Real front office.

I'm not sure what you are asking. Rizzo signed the whole roster. He constructed the team that fell into last place just as much as he built the World Series team.

That’s what Grant Paulsen has tweeted, as well. Makes sense.

Disagree with the move. Lerner should have fired himself and the rest of the family. Looks like the Lerners merely shifted the blame to the guy who was not allowed to spend on players or anythng else. And to the guy who had to play with the thin lineup. "Ogasawara"...that says it all.
