Backup catcher day for both teams otherwise similar lineup for the Giants, but Davey putting Nasim Nunez in for Garcia to face the lefty Robbie Ray.  Ray is a leftover from former GM Farhan Zaidi who had this thing about trading for Mariners.  The Giants have had this weird thing this year where Jordan Hicks and Landen Roupp have been extremely unlucky in terms of ERA given K,BB, and HR rates, while Ray has been extremely lucky.  He is nowhere near as dominant as his W-L and ERA suggest.  Lots of ball fours and his seemingly strong IP per start is really the luck of not giving up too many singles.  That said, Ray might be having success giving up few singles because he mostly throws a four seamer and slider in the top of the zone, and often above it.  So what happens is he gets both a lot of swing and miss on these enticing pitches, along with a lot of hard hit balls when batters connect.  Ray was actually drafted in the 12th round by the Nats in 2010.

Yesterday's game was less than two hours.  Neither team is particularly patient.

Tarik Skubal complete game shutout today for Detroit vs. Cleveland.  13 Ks 0 ball fours on just 94 pitches...72 of which were strikes.

Skubal's more of a late bloomer, but not only take him over Gore, probably over most pitchers in the league.  Just 7 ball fours all year.

On the hr, I think Wood pulls that back if he gets to the wall.

Call evens things out after his 1st inning catch

Soroka sucks

Supposed to be deadline trade bait, but with the injury plus getting hit hard he might stick around all year.

Sun issues.  Lamonte Wade's had the same problem for the Giants on some of those pop ups.

By the way, nice setup, Ian. The backgropund helps. Nats traded Ray for Doug Fister. "Mister Fister". Ray was a prized pitching prospect, best I remember.
