Kyle Harrison is taking the rotation spot of the injured Justin Verlander.  Harrison has been in the bullpen this year since his call up from AAA Sac, but made 31 starts over the last two seasons.  Heavily dependent on his four seamer, he tends to stay in the zone, gets whiffs, but also has a tendency to get hit hard.  Like MacKenzie Gore but with far fewer breaking pitches, less ability to get batters to chase, but more efficient.

He was sent to AAA after losing some velocity in the Spring due to some lingering injury issues, but has since recovered into the mid to high 90s.  A local kid from the Bay Area, he was drafted by the Giants in the 3rd round in the 2020 draft

Giants lineup is their standard.  Yaz moves up to the top of the order against the righty, and only position player change from yesterday is lefty LaMonte Wade at 1B taking over for righty Casey Schmitt.  Buster Posey is not a big fan of platoons, so they use them less than Davey and the Nats who love them.  Moreover, 1B is not expected to be a platoon when top prospect Bryce Eldridge (from Madison High in Fairfax County) comes up later this year or next.

The platoon thing for the Nats I think is a vestige of Davey's time with the Rays and Madden, plus of course the talent he's given. I like how he uses Rosario, for instance. I also think Call is a useful player but his performance tails if he's used as a regular and exposed a lot to righties.

Interesting he's resting Bell against the lefty and playing both Hassell and Lile. Might have figured Lowe could be given a rest with his month to date

lots going on today. TAPS is in along with some vet motor cycle groups, and there's a Black LGBTQ event, too, I think. I'll guess the bike guys aren't on metro.

Bell's been especially bad against lefties, hasn't he?

this year, yes. 37 PAs, so I don't know if you believe a sample that small.

Uh ... platooning has been a thing in baseball for a long time. Most teams in baseball have platoons

oh, yes. But some teams do it a lot more than others. For example, the 2019 team did it a lot less. You were not playing Adams over Zim, and Soto Robles LaRoche were everyday, as were Turner and Rendon.

Sweet. 71 pitches through 5 scoreless.

Now let's pad the lead so Irvin can go 7+
