Kyle Harrison is taking the rotation spot of the injured Justin Verlander. Harrison has been in the bullpen this year since his call up from AAA Sac, but made 31 starts over the last two seasons. Heavily dependent on his four seamer, he tends to stay in the zone, gets whiffs, but also has a tendency to get hit hard. Like MacKenzie Gore but with far fewer breaking pitches, less ability to get batters to chase, but more efficient.
He was sent to AAA after losing some velocity in the Spring due to some lingering injury issues, but has since recovered into the mid to high 90s. A local kid from the Bay Area, he was drafted by the Giants in the 3rd round in the 2020 draft
