Nationals @ Pirates, Game 2
« on: April 15, 2025, 05:38:32 pm »
Washington Nationals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
April 15, 6:40 PM
PNC Park

Jake Irvin (RHP, 0-0, 16 IP, 5.63 ERA / 5.91 FIP, 4 HR, 2.00 K:BB)
Mitch Keller (RHP, 1-1, 17 IP, 4.24 ERA / 2.80 FIP, 0 HR, 2.33 K:BB)

Nationals
1. James Wood (LF)
2. Keibert Ruiz (C)
3. Nathaniel Lowe (1B)
4. Josh Bell (DH)
5. Luis Garcia Jr. (2B)
6. Paul DeJong (3B)
7. Dylan Crews (RF)
8. Nasim Nunez (SS)
9. Jacob Young (CF)

Pirates
1. Oneil Cruz (CF)
2. Bryan Reynolds (DH)
3. Ke'Bryan Hayes (3B)
4. Enmanuel Valdez (1B)
5. Jack Suwinski (LF)
6. Tommy Pham (RF)
7. Adam Frazier (2B)
8. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (SS)
9. Henry Davis (C)

I think it is fair to say that neither starting pitcher has gotten off to the kind of start the teams were hoping for.  Wood leading off followed by Ruiz and Lowe. At least our better hitters will get up the most. Not sure if that ##6-7 is intimidating anyone right now.

Or the Senators...a traditional name for Washington's professional baseball team. Nobody knows why, but Washingtonians persisted in calling the team "Senators", even when the official name was "Nationals". I grew up calling them "Senators", and baseball cards seemed to alternate between Senators and Nationals. Hence "Nats".

Is that confusing? Imagine me, at six years old, hearing Bob Wolf, the teams broadcaster, welcoming us to "Your Washington Nationals", and then in the late 1950s, "Your Washington Senators".

Meanwhile, it is cold up in Rochester, with such a high wind blowing in that it seems to shake to camera in center field. Trey Lispscomb homered in the second.

one pitch AB didn't give Crews a chance to do that Nomar thing with his batting gloves.  Impressive feat now with the pitch clock.
