I will take $15 million without the interest over $1 million with interest.  Although Bonilla goes until 2035 I think. I believe Max has two more deferred payments?

Btw he pitched well the other day although lifted early from fatigue. Jays are making a run at the playoffs.

Max finishing with 0.2 WAR, most likely. Made 17 starts, pitched about 85 innings with a 5.19 ERA, and 1.2 something WHIP. Toronto paid him $15 million. Will any team want to sign him again?

I didn't realize how awful he's been the last few weeks:  9.00 ERA / 6.18 FIP over his last 6 starts (25IP). Still put up 26Ks, 8 BBs.

Someone will take a flyer on him with an incentive-heavy contract if he wants to pitch. One thing everyone who has ever played with him says is that he is a tremendous clubhouse influence on the younger players.

if there's no contender, then I wonder if he'd pitch here as a 4th starter / victory lap. Face saving if no one will give him a 7 figure deal for a year.

5th starter, but, yes, the Nats should sign him for one last roundup.

Why not...he's washed-up...he'll fit in well with this group of under-performers...

Hell...bring Corbin back too...

If we're looking to the future, we have to distance ourselves from the past.  This organization needs to be done with 2019 victory laps just like the Caps need to move past 2018.  It's time to get hungry again...

The team needs a vet starter. I don’t see a current true top of the rotation guy, so Max might be a decent alternative.

If he comes back next year, it will be to try and pitch for a contender. Max wants to win.

I can't wait to see Max get inducted in the ring and his # retired.

I can't wait to see him sign a one day contract and retire as a Nat.

I don't want to see him take a rotation spot.

The last thing this team needs is another starter with an ERA over 5.

Last offseason, I would have gone in for a Scherzer reunion. This offseason, I think it is time for Scherzer to retire.

Wow! I was about to look that up. End of the line, or end of the Express Line, for Max.

My heart says he should finish his career with the Nats. Head says that he could bark at the young pitchers, telling them how to pitch. For that matter, Max never seemed to tolerate lazy play and lazy mindedness. But...

He gets talked about a lot on the 11th inning podcast. The other players obviously had a ton of respect for him and his game time preparation.  I don't want to see him pitch again for us, but if he wants to come back in a Zimm-style role of mentor/coach/team ambassador, you obviously open that door.

Toronto Globe&Mail says:

Quote
Bo Bichette and Max Scherzer are among the big names the Toronto Blue Jays have left off their roster for the American League Division Series, which begins Saturday against the New York Yankees.

Bichette, the hard slugging shortstop, was left off, still trying to come back from a knee injury. If the Jays are able to advance past the Yankees, Bichette’s possible return would give the team a boost at the plate.

The Jays also left off pitchers Scherzer, Chris Bassitt, and Jose Berrios.

First baseman Ty France is also not a part of the 26-man roster for this round.

Bryan Woo is out of the ALDS with pec tightness.

Tigers will be able to throw Skubal twice on regular rest due to the extended schedule

Sign Max. He will set fire to a few gutless starters the Nats want to rely on.
