Good to see Call make the team.  He earned some ABs last year that they gave to Eddie Rosario for no good reason.

His nick name is “big country”.

the dilemma for me is whether to take the "Chaffin" and make a Gold Bond comment or whether to ask if his wife's last name is Caffin-Carpenter

Poche declines to report to AAA after clearing waivers. He’s a FA now.

my guess is he won't get an mlb offer, but this way he gets to pick which system to join.

Maybe he will turn it around elsewhere, but he is going to be stashed in the minors somewhere. Given his performance, I don't see him back on an MLB roster unless it's dire.

i assume he'll take a minor league FA deal somewhere else, but for whatever reason, decided it was time to find another club.

When you're DFAed to make room for a dude who fills the exact same role you do, it's not a good sign for you in that org.

He closed briefly for Arizona - he's more of a very solid lefty setup man for Finnegan (which the Nationals desperately needed). It's a good move. Let him produce - ship him at the deadline to a contender for a prospect. He should get the opportunity to debut today between the two games.

He already has . Pitched 2/3 of an inning against the Reds.

thanks. It looks like he's been around the track a bit. Very solid pick up. Was a free agent after not making the Tigers as an NRI this spring and opting out or being released on 4/30. He had his choice of where to go, and probably looked at the Nats as a place he could get significant innings right away. Good move all around.

I wonder if this sets up him staying and Lord going down after game 2? Figure Salazar goes down to make room for Soroka.

I could see them sending Lord to Rochester to keep him as a starter rather than messing with him by returning him to the bullpen. We don't really have any SP depth right besides Lord.

I dunno, the way Irvin is pitching lately, I'd burn an option and send him to Triple A to figure out what's going on. Or put him on the IL.

Let's see how the nightcap goes. I don't think Lord is ahead of Irvin, but he was better last time out. Parker is no prize lately, either

Soroka back and starting tonight. Lord heading back to the bullpen per Davey. Sims is probably gone at this point.

Sims is staying.  Salazar optioned to Rochester.

the obvious move. One of them had to go, and Salazar has options.

I would rather Lord be sent down to stay in the AAA rotation than have him up here as a multi-inning low lev mop up guy. I just see keeping him up as burning what I think he can become. I think it's unwise to count on Cavalli as the a rotation backfill with the assorted shutdowns whenever he's close, and Lara has not clicked in AAA.

I get Williams has a 2 year contract. They probably want him to stay in the rotation as the bridge vet over the next year plus, but that is probably the worst case of "play the contract." It's a lot for a middle reliever or a set up guy, but he's had success as a reliever in the past and solidifying the bullpen is a need right now. He's much more suited for that than Lord.
