Zach Brzykcy recalled
there's a part of me that would like to see Brzykcy in a deal for Jhostynxon Garcia. Hey, DeBartolo, offer that straight up ;)

fWIW, the active roster lists 10 pitchers: Gore, Irvin, Parker, Lord (4 starters), Ferrer, Pilkington, Rutledge, Brzykcy, Lara, and Henry (6 relievers). It lists 2 catchers, 7 infielders (including Bell, with DeJong and Tena), and 3 outfielders. So, 3 pitchers and an outfielder need to be added. Folks here have said Hassell is one of the call ups but it's not in the transactions yet.

The 40 man has Hassell as the sole minor league outfielder (Crews on the 60 day IL). Baker, Chaparro, Lipscomb and Nunez are the 4 minor league infielders. Keibert is IL-7 but counts against the 40 man. There are 8 40-man pitchers in the minors: Beeter, Cavalli, Eder, Loutos, Ogasawara, Ribalta, Salazar, and Thompson. Williams, Law, Herz, and Gray are 60 day IL.

So, with 22 on the active roster and another 14 on the 40 man in the minors, that's 36 total. Means they have 4 open slots on the 40 man.

Play him in CF. See if he hits better than Young while fielding well enough. Of course, the all-lefty OF and nearly all-lefty INF seems a mistake. Lets assume that Crews pushes Lille to the bench.

A few half-decent relievers caught DFAs, so that might help if they're interested.  Dead end, but "hey, wanna try closing" might work for Pressly or someone like him.

It's a lost season and we're past the trade deadline. I'd rather churn through arms who could end up decent options for 2026 than guys on expirings.

Per Grant Paulson: In addition to Hassell, the Nats are calling up Osagawara, Loutos, and Ribalta to fill the open slots.

Will be interesting to see who closes from here on out, assuming there are opportunities. Probably Ferrar and Henry depending on the situation.

that's reported elsewhere but I guess they aren't officially  making the transactions until closer to game time.

Ogasawara probably is the #5 starter for now.

I might think Ferrer closes with Henry and Pilkington being the primary options for the 7th and 8th with a lead. It'll be a complete trial by fire for the guy who comes in in the 5th and 6th to bail out the starter.

Part of me wants to test Cole Henry. More of me doesn't want to ruin him. True conondrum.

Henry is at his career high in innings pitched. Don't think we need to test him more

The Nats don't need to test Henry. Let him rest. And how does anyone know a success rate for TOS? Why test that?

Are they going to protect Cavalli by keeping him at Rochester? Is that protection?

5th starter is still open, so it's possible Ogasawara is just long relief until the actual 5th starter comes up. Cavalli pitched yesterday, so he's a possibility for Wednesday 8/6. Rochester lists tonight's pitcher as TBD. Eder last pitched 7/23 (6 innings of mop up), so he could take the turn tonight and might be another possibility.

I assume Cavalli
you'd have figured they'd wait until Wednesday if that's his start. He pitched Thursday, so Tuesday would be his turn. Looks like they are giving Gore an extra day.

Don't they typically wait until the day of the game to make a move?

In your dreams. Jhosty had a great day at Worcester today, went 2 for 3 with a homer and 2 RBIs.

And oh by the way, our old friend Joe Ross pitched a scoreless inning for the Iron Pigs.

No pitcher announced for Wednesday yet. Gore is slated for Tuesday, Parker for Thursday. Alvarez pitched today and it didn't go well.

What a disaster every time he takes the field for the Nats.  Yet his minors numbers look really solid.  Head case?

Maybe luck. He inherits a lot of baserunners, mainly because he's the guy that pitches when the game is over

yah, I know it wasn't going to happen.

BTW - I think at the time Garciaparra for Mientkeiwicz was the swap with the longest two names in a deal.
