White Lotus? Haven't watched that series but I just now the guy who created went on Survivor (and is going back soon).

Why is Hassell being sent down? Why not keep him and dump Call?

they want a righty hitting option to go easy on Lile. Young is the full time CF. If Hassell can't hit in the majors, then there's no need for his d.

so House full time and Rosario is a pure backup for 2d, ss, and 3d. Maybe some platooning for Rosario  at 2d. No end to Bell quite yet.

Seemed to be hitting fine until he got Coles’d

Could be that or it could also be the guy teaching them who’s seemingly ruined everyone with the exception of Wood.

CJ has been ruined? Garcia?  Call?

Not much of a Coles fan but you’re not gonna ruin someone in a couple weeks.  Hassell seems the lefty version of Jacob Young.

Hassell always profiled with a better bat than Young. I think Hassell can be at worst a 4th OF. Might still have starter upside if he can come back up and figure out MLB pitching. Make the adjustments as they say.

Well yeah because he was a highly rated prospect.  But I don’t see much difference between them so far.

That's where I'm at. My expectations of Hassell had moved to more #4 OF with some starter potential. His first cup of coffee wasn't great, but it wasn't a disaster. He is only 23.

Hassell didn't look nearly as comfortable in the outfield as Young.

very few players in baseball look as good as Young fielding his position. Hassell's fine in CF. Made a few dumb decisions on throws, but that's about it. We are ridiculously young and deep in terms of quality defenders, with Young and Crews being excellent in CF and Hassell playing better than a 3rd stringer. As for bats, the fact that Hassell and Young hit from opposite sides sets up a platoon, and Crews can slide to CF over if a better corner OF becomes part of the team.

For age equivalency, when Young was Hassell's age he was in AA.  He did move fast after that, but he was still 3 months short of his first MLB action.  It's a bit hard to compare the two, though: Young had 3 years of the SEC, whereas Hassell had Tennessee high school plus a missed COVID half-season and the post-COVID garbage low minors.

The org - and to be fair, the rest of the league - is going to need to confront the fact that they created a player development  problem by eliminating non-Complex rookie leagues.  Low-A is barely professional baseball now. It's basically the same as what the Appy League used to be.  You have guys there who wouldn't get playing time at a decent college program.  The level has been dragged down so far that it's not really possible to meaningfully develop guys below A+.

And Hassell was thrown into A+ because of this, and he's mostly struggled since.  There's a level missing, and it's killing a lot of the HS guys.

This is one of the reasons I wonder about going Holliday at 1. I'd rather take an available arm at that point. Hassell still has upside, so I don't think it's terrible to think he's done based off his first cup of coffee. Crews also has struggled mightily, so I wouldn't say that Young is clogging Hassell's way into the bigs.

I’ve been wondering about long term effects of a smaller player development pool. I don’t have any facts to support the feeling but it seems like there are a lot less Tommy Milone types in AAA as well. So little chance to see anything that looks like major league off speed pitches.

I think the rate of pitching injuries in MLB (and pro ball overall) explains this.  #5 starter is the new AAAA.  Trevor Williams should be in AAA, for example.
