Grissom is about ready.   He started out slow in AAA but has been dominating over the past two weeks
He's pitched 4 innings and has a 1.75 WHIP

Salazar is only here until Law is ready
this. He's only up because Davey had enough of Lopez being a jerk.

Where do they play him?  Our infield depth just took a big hit.

At the very least, he can DH or play 1B against LHP.

Lowe needs All the starts to see if he can be moved at the deadline.

He's a .505 OPS against LHP. And he's under contract through next season so he doesn't need to be moved

He doesn't need to be moved but he ain't helping the team much. Do we think Wood is an OF, 1B, or DH? When will YoYo be ready? Is YoYo a 1B at the MLB level? I would rather have given Lowe a ton of leash to regain as much value as possible, and move him for anything at the deadline and play either Wood or Chappy at 1B the rest of the year.

this is a new thing. Career he has minimal splits. .332 wOBA vs LHP, .343 vs RHP.

The thing that's weird about the Chappy/Nunez move is it is hard to see using a roster spot on a short-side of a platoon DH. Nunez has to play, so he belongs in AAA. Tena and Rosario can back up the MI spots. I do wonder if this is prep for Bell getting traded. I think he's hot enough now to have some value. Maybe Rosario can be moved now instead. i suspect one of those two are dealt when House is up.

On another note, Morales made a nice play at 3rd yesterday. Maybe he starts getting time there if House is up and Wallace isn't ready.

Wood is looking less like a disaster in left than he was last year. I think they will give him a long leash. If there's a story about him playing 1st during BP, then I'll think they are giving up on "can he play LF?" Until then, he occupies left.

Chappy was activated off the IL on 5/28 and optioned to Rochester. It is 12 days since he was optioned. I think he doesn't lose an option if he remains up the rest of the season. That might explain the timing. However, I have a hard time imagining they are worried about his options at age 26.

Bennett Lehmann at District on Deck points out that the addition of Chaparro now allows for Rosario to play some second against lefties while Chappy can play 3rd. Lehmann thinks all 3 of Bell, Lowe, and Garcia will get some more time off vs lefties as a result.

While that may be true, Chappy still is a short side of a platoon part-timer. i  don't think he's up to get a fair run at 3rd base full-time with House in the wings. The only way he gets fulltime at either 1st or DH is if the incumbents are traded. It's not like he's torn up righties in the minors, either.

DeJung is probably back before the ASB and what the consensus on the board is that House will be up before that. Is this a precursor to Bell , Lowe, Rosario, DeJung and/or Tena being moved, traded or DFA'ed?

I don't know who is trading for PDJ.

Tena definitely isn't being moved. I'm guessing Rizzo will hold on to Bell, Lowe, and Rosario until the last possible moment.

.

He will probably be DFAed if House is up as his contract is only 1M.
Bell has no value and Lowe might be tradable though I don’t know who is that desperate as Boston filled their hole at 1B. Rosario has value and I would keep him as he is a good righty off the bench with Tena as the lefty.

Nats claim RHP Ryan Loutos from the Dodgers, he's on the 40-man and optioned to Rochester.

Only 26, had success in the minors but got lit up in 2 appearances / 3 innings with LA

MLBTR notes:
Quote
He has logged 231 innings on the farm from 2021 to the present with a 4.68 ERA. Dating back to the start of 2024, he has a 3.14 ERA in 71 2/3 innings, with a 24.3% strikeout rate and 9.5% walk rate. He has also generated grounders on close to half the balls in play he’s allowed.

Loutos can also be optioned to the minors for the rest of this year and one additional season. The Nats had an open roster spot, so Loutos is essentially a free flier on a young arm with some intriguing numbers. He’ll head to Rochester for now but should be up in the big leagues whenever Washington needs a fresh bullpen arm.
