78 wins. Nats are consensus 4th place in NL East, but only thing missing is an ace. House will be brought up in late August. Call traded at the deadline when Hassell takes CF, after hitting .300 with Rochester. Young becomes 4th OF. CJ feels the competition and takes life, and fielding, more seriously. Phillies have a strong season, but their stars begin to look their ages.

I will say 77.  Fun year watching Wood and Crews.  Hang in the wild card race till July and then fade.  Followed by a 2026 where we tank again and get the first pick in 2027!

FWIW, this is the spread of predictions so far:

78 Noble, then Welch
77 Imref, then JCA, then PWC (superseding his prediction of 80)
76 IanR
75 Slate, then halfsmokes
74 DaveinFFX
71 VaRK
70 Offthebat
69 Aspen
67 EN

So far, the median is 75, the mode is 77, the low is 67, and the high is 78. My sense is that we've gotten more pessimistic as the Spring rolled on.

You can still supersede your old prediction before 1st pitch Thursday.

I certainly have. I believe Rizzo acquisitions aren’t Gallo Senzel Rosario bad this year but I don’t believe Bell Lowe or Rosario will be on the team by the TDL and Rosario will be gone by the ASB. I have serious questions about the Soroka signing also. However, I see a plan B. If Lowe falters or is traded Wood can take his place at 1B as he continues to misplay his position in LF and gives away too many outs. This opens up an OF position for Garrett or Hassell. House if ready can take over 3B and DeJung can be the utility IF. Bell can be replaced by Chapparo or either Hassell or Garrett. Also,Young is very vulnerable if he doesn’t start to hit and could be a factor in the promotion of Garrett/ Hassell.

While I'd be on-board for all of this...why not...I can't see where it buys you even one more :w:

81-81, glory of 2005 all over again!    :minigunz:

A solid rotation, vastly improved defense and the comeback player of the year starting at catcher.

80 wins. This is a young and exciting team that can easily get to around .500 but lacks the elite veteran talent to go further than that.

Going to hold with my optimistic 76.  Hitting improves, especially Keibert, Wood, Crews, and the gone-at-the-deadline crew.  Last year's .683 team OPS comes back up into the 710s.  But pitching probably a little worse, defense and baserunning continue the clown show.

I'll sign up for 73 wins.

This team is less depressing than last year's, but not by much.  There's more upside on the position player side and nobody will suck as badly as Senzel - at least while playing as much - but there's somehow downside on the pitching side despite dumping Corbin.  People probably forget that Williams was career-year good before getting hurt, the young starters were better than expected, and pretty much everyone they tried in the rotation was healthy, good, or both.  That's not likely to happen again.  Soroka sucks, and it'll take longer than it should for him to pitch his way off the roster.  They'll bring back Ogasawara at some point, and he sucks too.

Also, Winker hit well when he was around.  Bell won't be better than that.

So while Crews and Wood might help, Lowe is better than Gallo, and Bell might or might not suck, this team still has too many problems and not enough star power.  It's a bunch of average regulars at the top end and then roster filler.

I want 100 losses. Rizzo should be embarrassed over this offseason, but they’ll stumble into a just good enough record that we’ll rinse and repeat next winter. I want enough losses to actually force change

Root for 109 losses then so that Rizzo understands that 54 wins isn't a given...

Elvir strikes me as pretty sober in his assessment. I think it is fair to say that the starting staff probably overperformed last year. I think / hope that anyone who falters is swapped out fairly quickly for a successful Herz and that Cavalli, Lord, and others in AA or AAA can pick things up so we don't suffer from a cruddy start or two every 5 days like we have in since 2021. I think Wood has a lot of high end potential in terms of hitting, and I'm sold on Crews, so I'm more optimistic by a few games.
