After the hype, I can't imagine how poorly they executed it. Were there drainage issues?
I saw a bit of coverage on a tv at a restaurant. Just looked like heavy rain. Now sure why they aren’t playing multiple games given the setup cost.

don't look now, but  the Sox are a game and a half up on them and are 1st wild card. The BJs are only 3 games ahead of Boston.

Dan Szymborski ran a before and after the July deals ZiPS season simulation and found that the Red Sox improved their odds of making the post-season by the 3rd greatest amount, roughly 3.5%, as a result of their roster changes, behind only Seattle and SD. It's kind of surprising, but Matz in the pen and May in the rotation are so much better than the players they are replacing even though they themselves are nowhere near the best players move in July. That, and the fact that teams like the Mets, Yankees, Astros, and Phillies already had such high likelihood of making the post-season that even the higher profile improvements they made did not materially move the odds. The Sox only moved from about 56+% to 60%, but that was more than the NYY's move from 91% to 91+%. It's just an interesting take on the deadline moves because the Sox were criticized for not landing higher profile player like O'Hearn or Kelly when they had ample prospects to offer.

I still wonder if they'll put in a claim for Bell if he gets waived. IDK if the Nats push back a decision on that move until they've seen more of Crews and Franklin in the minors.

Yeah on the last Effectively Wild episode they were talking about how all the moves the Mets and Phillies made didn't actually increase their playoff odds, but counterintuitively their World Series odds both went up.

Lucas Giolito has been a big part of their success, he's dominant as of late.

The Blue Jays being 18 games over .500 with only a +30 run differential is pretty amazing.

It was a deluge...they weren't playin' baseball anywhere in the kind of storm they had.  The field looked to be in good shape on Sunday, despite not having a normal compliment of groundskeeping equipment.

Jay Cuda notes that the White Sox and Yankees have both won the same amount of games since June 1st.

Gotta be the last year for Boone, right?

Yankees get Aaron Judge back last night. Lose 2-0 to the Rangers and manage only 2 hits. Judge went 0-3 with 2Ks

Mets also lose (to Cleveland).

We may suck, but at least we can enjoy watching the Yankees and Mets struggle. :)

Giants have lost 14 of 15 at home. I was at the only win during that time.

Zack Wheeler with an upper body blood clot.  Seems his season is probably over.  At least they caught it before something serious happened.

ugh. Saw the ninth inning comeback and thought I heard that they won but the Reds tied it in the bottom of the ninth. Reds win in 10. Looks like Megill was unavailable.

Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo has made 24 starts this season.

He's gone 6 or more innings in all 24 starts, each with 2 or fewer walks allowed.  Last pitcher to achieve this?  Cy Young in 1905, who had 30 such starts.
