Also Canada Day. Yanks at BlueJays on mlb network. Jays wearing red unis.

I guess it's to honor the old Red Army hockey teams.

;)

I tried to make it to the Rogers Center for that game, something came up so I didn't end up going.  Wish I would've went as the Jays are playing real good baseball as of late.

Not MLB but worth a look.  I had never seen this.  Maybe will lead to a rule change?

https://www.si.com/college-baseball/amateur-base-runner-makes-smart-play-avoid-double-play

No rule change needed:

Official Baseball Rule 6.01(a)(6): "If, in the judgment of the umpire, a base runner willfully and deliberately interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball with the obvious intent to break up a double play, the ball is dead. The umpire shall call the runner out for interference and also call out the batter-runner because of the action of their teammate. In no event may bases be run or runs scored because of such action by a runner."

College Rule:  "If a double play is likely, and the runner intentionally interferes with the fielder who is attempting to field or throw the ball, both the runner and batter-runner shall be declared out" (NCAA 8-5-d)

So you are saying the ump blew the call. Probably hadn't seen it before because it's blatantly against the rules so didn't know the right call.

The only thing I can think of is that the MLB rule says “interferes with a batted ball or fielder” and  the college rule says “ interferes with the fielder.”

I’d argue that grabbing the ball interferes with the fielder attempting to field the ball, but one could say that the rule means actually touching the fielder.  The MLB rule is without ambiguity, however.

They were also in the ALCS last year.

Thank you for this. Until I got to this post, my brain was melting about why this isn't standard coaching.

I want to know what player did this once upon a time in the majors to force the rule.

Lincecum didn’t throw that hard.  Well no one throws that hard.

It’s a TV show, and this kid may have the best stuff I’ve *ever* seen. No offense to Suarez and Sanchez, but those guys aren’t even moving the needle. There is no doubt in my mind who the better pitcher is.

He only pitched five games. Good he makes it now I guess before his TJS.

Anyhoo they offered to Sanchez but said he had to agree to be available to pitch. He pitches today so said no. Phillies will pay his all star bonus. Wheeler backing out might have played a role also.

One IP last night, one hit allowed (a single), no K's. As NL fans we'll take it I guess
