called my brother today and we spent half the call with him thanking the Nats for releasing Nathaniel Lowe.

Lowe spoke a bit about what went wrong in DC. He said more or less he put a lot of pressure on himself (some at team's urging) to hit for more power when it wasn't his game and that the Nats were looking for him to be more of a vocal leader as the veteran in the lineup. He says he fits in better in Boston, where where he's seen as a steadying, calming presence.

...and yet the Nats took him to arbitration because he wasn't a power hitter.  This franchise is totally freaked up...

Anywhere else would likely be a better fit for most any MLB player...

He's basically Adam Dunn who didn't get much HOF love but he played back when high strikeout numbers were still seen as extremely bad and Schwarber has been getting national attention that Dunn never got. If he actually gets to 500 (Dunn finished just 38 short) I could see it happening.

Dunn only 18 career bWAR. Kyle at 19.7 already.  Of course neither gets anything from defense or baserunning.  Or probably actually lose points. Schwarber is career 127 OPS+ to 124 for Dunn.

That OPS+ includes Dunn's decline years which Schwarber hasn't experienced yet. Chances are Schwarber's career OPS+ will drop as he ages.

And WAR isn't a good fit for this archetype of player and underrates both in my opinion, but for what it's worth fWAR has Dunn at 25.6 for his career vs Schwarber at 21.2 (nearly a quarter of which is coming from this season alone).

Dunn triple slash (including his decline): .237/.364/.490 (.854)

Schwarber triple slash: .232/.347/.501 (.848)

They're pretty close I think.

Well Baines played more than 20 years.  So like 2 WAR per year.  So I’m sure if Schwarber plays another ten years he will get in.

Schwarber is the games greatest saleman. If you can put the Toad (Bud Selig) in, then Dunn and Schwarber are hands down HOFers. Maybe Chicago hates Dunn but both are/were adopted by the local fan base. They grow the sport not the owners or commissioner.
