TalkNats noted earlier that in the offseason Lipscomb, Wood, and Nunez all worked with A Plus Baseball in Gaithersburg. So far they are all showing positive results.

Interesting.  Nunez and Lipscomb are never going to be hard hitters, but they can be valuable with patient, long at bats.  Saw that last night with Nunez.

update on Brzykcy:

Quote
Reliever Zach Brzykcy began a rehab assignment Tuesday with low Class A Fredericksburg, striking out the side in one inning. The righty had been sidelined with a right quad strain since spring training. Brzykcy made his major league debut in 2024, posting a 14.29 ERA in six appearances with Washington.

Article also mentions Soroka is going to throw a simulated game this afternoon. Depending on the results, he may go on rehab soon.

If Lipscomb starts hitting, Nats need to hire that hitting coach as hitting developmental coordinator

DeJong to IL. Lipscomb to replace him.

Lipscomb is playing all over diamond in Rochester.  I’d be thrilled if he got some hits and made front office give a long glance at Rosario before sending Lipscomb back to Rochester.

Lipscomb hit a home run last night in Rochester.

DeJong has a broken nose. That could have been way way worse. I figured a fractured cheekbone at a minimum.

seemed like he just froze as the ball was heading for his head. Good thing it wasn't an inch or so higher.

Updates from Zuck:
- Abrams is hitting and doing fielding drills, could be back when he's eligible on Tuesday
- Soroka threw 37 pitches in a sim game on Wednesday without any issues. He's likely to make a rehab start in the minors on Tuesday
- Ribalta has yet to resume throwing

Abrams going to muff a groundball to get Soroka ready for his major-league defense

Actually, we really need Abrams bat like it was before the IL, and any innings out of Soroka would allow Lord to go back to the pen.

I love Nunez's glove, and Lipscomb saved the game last night, but I'm hoping CJ is back tonight. When he's on like he was, it just makes the order lengthier.

I want Nunez sent down to get games at positions away from SS. They moved Lipscomb around all over the park in Rochester, should do same now with Nunez.

unconventional thought: cj is not an obp guy. Hit him 3rd.

Eh, even I don't believe this. Abrams at 1, Wood at 2, Lowe at 4 is probably the order optimized,  at least vs RHP. Ruiz can hit 3rd while he's hot, then probably Bell, Crews, and Garcia 5, 6 ,and 7. 3d base, then Young.

against RHP: Abrams, Garcia, Wood, Lowe, Ruiz?
against LHP: Abrams, Crews, Wood, Ruiz, Lowe?

I don't like more than 3 lefties together just because it makes it too easy to bring in lefty relievers for a stack. Vs LHP, I'd try to get Ruiz in at #3 for that reason (also a contact guy; BBs are less important at #3 than #2 or #4 because the #3 hitter comes up more often with 2 outs.). Move Garcia back in that stack, slide your best hitter Wood to #2, and your next best OPS guy with BBs in the OPB to #4 (Lowe).

Against LHP, Wood is not a bad leadoff option because of his OBP. As for #2, a case could be made for Ruiz right now. Abrams is low OBP but good SLG, so #3 isn't bad. After that, get conventional with the remaining hitters based on OPS, which likely is Lowe then Rosario (for Tena or Garcia), then Crews or Bell for now, followed by the other, then whovever of Tena or Garcia is playing at #8. Young helps make the lineup go out of #9 as long as he's getting on.
