Davey says finnegan is dealing with shoulder fatigue. Getting a few days off.
I thought it was more biceps than shoulder.

Just 10 day Finnegan right now and start having Cole Henry get late inning appearances to build toward closer role.

well, for a pitcher it's 15 days, but I suspect they'll see if he's ready tomorrow. If not, then IL, backdate 3 days, then it's only the road trip he misses

Anything other than radio-silence on Young and Crews? My guess on Crews is after the ASB would be about 8 weeks,  which sounds reasonable. As for Young, there's just "June" on the Nats website, which could be worse but is a wide range.

TalkNats observed:

Quote
. Jacob Young took swings in the batting cage the past two days. He is eligible to come off of the 10-day IL today after his recovering from a shoulder injury on a collision with the outfield wall over a week ago. You would think they would send him out for a couple of games at a minor league affiliate before activating him.

Note: Martinez said Jacob Young (shoulder) will head out on a rehab assignment upon the team’s return to Washington if all goes well with his progression. The outfielder has not played since May 17 in Baltimore.

Obliques can be two weeks, it could be we hope he gets some major league swings in September

that's a pretty wide range. he went on the IL around 5/23, so 2 weeks would be this weekend. Some swings in September would be the other extreme. I don't think 6-8 weeks is atypical, and 6 weeks takes you to just about the all star break. The AI answer for how long does it take for a baseball player to recover from an oblique injury is a few days for a mild injury to 3-4 months for a severe strain. Judging off the lack of any indication of baseball-related work, I'm guessing mild is sort of ruled out.

Definitely not mild or we'd hear about swinging by now. Considering he is young, was having a hell season, and we have a glut of OF prospects needing time, I think the smart move is keeping him on ice as long as needed. No need to rush him back.

A platoon of Hassell and Young would give us league average offense in CF

Young went 1-3, BB tonight in Harrisburg, was lifted late.

Latest on Crews is that he hasn't resumed doinig any baseball activities. Probably out until after the ASB at this point.

Righty Mason Thompson threw a simulated game Monday in West Palm Beach, Florida, as he continues to rehab from Tommy John surgery. Martinez said he hopes that the Nationals can send him on a rehab assignment soon if he recovers well after his next few outings.

Young went 0-4 last night in Harrisburg. I assume once he's ready, Lile goes back to Rochester.

Gray was on Nats extra. He’s in his third week of two bullpens per week and threw one before today’s game at Nats park. Just throwing fastballs for now. Still hoping to pitch this season.

Zuck with some updates:

* Derek Law will travel with the Nationals to New York this week and face hitters in a simulated game, the first time the veteran reliever has done that since the end of spring training. Law, on the 15-day injured list with right forearm inflammation, has been building up slowly over the last month. He’s still several weeks away from returning but is finally progressing.

* Paul DeJong also will travel with the team on this short road trip, the first time the veteran infielder has done so since he was struck in the face by a pitch April 15 in Pittsburgh. DeJong, who suffered multiple fractures to his cheekbone, nose and orbital area, is finally ready to begin some light baseball activities.

* Orlando Ribalta, on the 15-day IL since April 10 with a right biceps strain, will head to West Palm Beach, Fla., to begin ramping up his throwing program.

Some additional updates from Zuck:

Quote
* Paul DeJong continues to take batting practice on the field with teammates. The veteran infielder, who suffered multiple facial fractures when he was struck by a pitch April 16, is scheduled to visit a doctor Saturday. If all goes well, he could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment early next week.

* Derek Law, who faced live hitters this week for the first time since opening the season on the injured list with inflammation in his right forearm, is scheduled to throw at least one more simulated game this weekend and then could begin a minor league rehab assignment after that.

* Mason Thompson (Tommy John surgery) is close to beginning a rehab assignment after pitching multiple times in West Palm Beach, Fla.

* Orlando Ribalta (right biceps strain) is scheduled to throw off a bullpen mound for the first time Tuesday.

Chafin to the 15-day IL (retroactive to June 11) with a hamstring strain, Ryan Loutos recalled.
