I'm going to the opener on Saturday afternoon, but judging by how many tickets are still available, I won't have much company.
will just miss them on my trip to Fort Myers. Was going to catch the Nats in Port St Lucie on 2/28, but the friend I'm going with decided to go to just 2 spring games to make the travel easier and to save a few bucks. Nats will be in Ft Myers 3/3, when I'll be leaving.
I'll be there to mentor.

Actually going to Scottsdale to see the Giants, and their top prospect, Bryce Eldridge, from Madison High in Vienna, VA.

@machpost hopefully Astros fans won't outnumber you lol

@JCA I'm jealous!  :mg:

@Ian that's great, I've never been to Scottsdale, hope you have a good time.

Irvin starting Saturday's opener as Gore wanted to get an additional bullpen session in this week.

Zuck posted some notes on tomorrow's opener. Irvin will throw one inning. Abrams and Wood won't play (Rosario starts at short). Poche is back from an illness but probably won't pitch this weekend.

I would love to see Stone Garrett force his way onto the roster at the expense of one of the marginal vet pickups

I’m ts not out of the question that he makes it over Call given crews can cover CF

If Stone mashes I could see him as the 4th OF over Call. Although I like Call’s hustle.

When Bell met Susana.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/02/23/josh-bell-jarlin-susana-nationals-spring-training/

Bell was watching him on the mound, not realizing who it was.

Quote
Later in the day, in Washington’s spring training clubhouse, Bell was asked what he thought about Susana.

“Which one was that?” Bell replied.

Some clarification was needed.

“The last guy, okay, yeah — awesome stuff,” said Bell, the former National who signed a one-year deal to return to Washington this offseason. “He was like 100 [mph] every pitch, 101 every pitch. Good feel for the sinker, good feel for the slider.”
...
In the 2022 trade that sent Bell and Juan Soto to the San Diego Padres, six players joined the Nationals — Abrams, Susana, left-hander MacKenzie Gore, first baseman Luke Voit and outfielders Robert Hassell III and James Wood. So, yes, Bell and Susana were part of the same trade, on different sides. Adding another layer: When the Padres asked to include Bell in the transaction, the Nationals wanted Susana in return.

Didn’t know that? Bell didn’t, either.

“Ohhhh,” Bell said. “Yeah, I had no idea. This is him, right? This big guy?” Yes, him.
...
Susana was a bit more aware of his new teammate. “Soto and Bell,” he said when asked whether he realized whom he was traded for. He smiled and pointed across the room to Bell’s locker. Susana said he and Bell have said hello but haven’t had any extended conversations. After all, they’re both trying to make their mark in camp.
