Hogan was an enigma. Easily the biggest star wrestling ever produced (sorry Rock), the biggest face/good-guy the business ever saw, and the biggest heel/bad-guy the business ever saw. He was the central character in McMahon's bringing of wrestling from the days of being on UHF channel 48 to the mainstream, and from regional to national promotions. He was also the central character in the Monday night wars of the late 1990s and NWO storyline that saw wrestling viewership reach all time highs.

On the other hand, he said and did a lot of things that, shall I say, weren't so nice and he had a reputation for stepping over people to protect his character.

RIP Hulkster. Somewhere the Iron Sheik is chasing after him right now.

Complicated man but a great man, I would say.  Definitely some blemishes on his legacy, but I'd wager he did more good than bad in his life.

superstitious frivolity of course, but I suppose Hogan satisfies the "rule of threes" for the week.

Weird fact: Both Ozzy and Hulk Hogan are members of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Wrote Twilight Zone. A band that probably ought to be in the R&R HoF. Didn't realize that they have been around since 1961.

co-wrote that one
Thanks. I was only thinking about Golden Earring songs. They suffer a bit by not being a USA or British/Irish act. I don't think there's many continental acts in the R&R HOF (ABBA being the big exception, along with Kraftwerk).

Tom Lehrer, age 97. Brilliant satirist.

I did not know he was also a university mathematics professor.

For the scientists out there:

Brings to mind when we were at White Rock, NM, just outside Los Alamos. We stopped at a cafe to get lunch. No offense to anyone, but every table looked like it was populated by the guys from Big Bang Theory. I hit the bathroom before I left.  Above the baby changing station, instead of some lovely picture, they had a large poster of the Periodic Table of the Elements. It tracked.

Hulk Hogan cause of death was a heart attack, he was also suffering from a relatively mild form of leukemia.

Kind of an obscure one, but Terry Reid, who passed on the chance to be the lead singer of what became Led Zeppelin and instead recommended Robert Plant for the job, has died at 75.

I was thinking about him recently. Quite the astronaut hero. A good run all the way to 97. Man is it tough to see guys like this go. RIP

I was of the Gemini and Apollo eras where we practically worshipped astronauts. The passing of an era as more of these men slip the surly bonds of earth.

This (if accurate) from a quick search of the interweb:

“As of August 2025, six Apollo astronauts are still alive: David Scott (Apollo 9 and 15), Russell Schweickart (Apollo 9), Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11), Fred Haise (Apollo 13), Charles Duke (Apollo 16), and Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17).”

I’ve seen conflicting lists of how many Gemini astronauts who flew are still with us.
